Was looking at the recent deal for the Xiaomi 34 inch and got to this alternative, not really experienced with ultrawidewide monitors, going off this comment this seems like a fine deal for a refurb, last time it was this price it got around 60 upvotes so looking to help out a few people hopefully. Feel free to leave anecdotes in comments :)

3440 x 1440 QHD
Note that compared to the Xiaomi 34" this is 1800R vs 1500R, so the Xiaomi monitor will provide a bit more immersion as it's a bit closer to the human eye view radius of 1000R, thanks cycleri3!

No cashback for Dell Outlet unfortunately :(

Note: if ordering more than 5, you'll be required to call or contact their sales team.

this is a 1800R vs Xiaomi 1500R (smaller radius/bigger curve)

This has better brightness 400 cd/m² vs 300 cd/m² on Xiaomi. (important if you use it in a bright room)

    • Thanks, added :)

Why you need a refurb one when brand new was about $70ish more? Not quite getting it

    • It's got 3 years warranty, not a huge issue that it's refurb

    • Where you getting this price from? Dell lists for $899 and JW computers sells for $699

      • +7

It frequently goes on sale for $540.

        • +3

But it's not quite $70ish more.

      • +1

Not long ago, I think it's 500 for the new with discount

      • +3

I got mine for $439 on the last promo deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/722443 + dell advantage

    • +1

Dell seems to be pretty good with their return services, and that's if the monitor even arrives with dead pixels. $70 saved is a decent amount for more or less the same product imo.

    • more like $90 ish

      • -1

Nah it's $50 ish with student discount. with eBay promo and gc, I got it for 520 ish 1year and half ago If I remember it right.

        • +1

not everyone can access the student discount, ebay (plus?) promo and gift card at the same time. Based on how often the good price on the new unit is, it's $90 ish

          • @ntt: No it's not. Gc alone you can save $15. And everyone can access it

    • +6

I got a refurb one roughly 90 bucks cheaper than a new one and now I have to return it as it makes similar noises as my 1999 dial-up internet modem.

Took me half an hour in chat line to sort it out and get a new one. Never buying refurb again.

      • +4

That's exactly what I experienced and I rather pay the extra for the new instead of saving 70 ish for the issue fixed refurb items.

        • +5

I agree. People blindly assume it was returned because of a dead pixel or something similar, but the issue could be far more complicated than that. It's essentially a gamble that is not worth the risk unless you have the time and patience to sort it out. I personally don't have those, so I will just buy a new one next time.

          • +3

@Csadeev: I used 2 2nd hand dell monitors ultrasharp model, each last 4 years average before I upgraded, no sign of defects. So your milage may vary.

    • +2

Yup I agree, I was in the market for one a few months ago and just waited for the dell / ebay sales that seems to come around every couple of months, much rather buy brand new than refurbished for that price difference. Saying that, I do wonder if i was given a refurbished one. Only reason i say that is, when the box arrived , it had one sticky tape in the middle part of the box / opening, but none on the sides and for such a large wide box, i just found that really odd. I dont know if thats normal. Everything else seemed new but you cant always tell.

Amazing monitor, writing on it right now so can answer any questions. Definitely recommend for both office and gaming. Use Displayport and not HDMI to get the most out of it.

Also compatible with no issues with M1 Macbooks.

    • So not powered by usb-c?

    • I have the same monitor, but have always used HDMI. What difference would you expect to see between the two?

    • What dock are you using ? Are you able to charge M1 laptop, run the monitor and 2x USB on it ?

      • +2

No dock but I use the Anker 7 in 1 hub that does everything except DisplayPort. So I use 2 cables to plug-in via USB C.

This is a good place to find specs on the monitor, some highlights

    400nits sustained
    99% sRGB
144Hz over dp 100Hz over HDMI
    Inbuilt USB A hub
    Freesync premium

I bought a U3223QE (Refurb) mouths ago from Dell outlet, turned out it had one bright pixel, then I claimed warranty, they sent me a brand new one for replacement.

    • I have read that a few times… People buying refurbished, receiving a faulty unit then Dell replacing with a brand new one… Win Win

I bought two new ones for a dual screen set-up & love them… Mostly for productivity but also do some gaming…

      • Can you split windows on a widescreen and screenshare (over ms teams/other) just one of the split screen ?

Also can you use a usb c(from laptop) to dp (monitor) to charge and display?

        Windows and Mac Air(Intel)

  • I picked this monitor up about a year ago or so I think and it's been excellent. My MacBook Pro (via USB-C -> HDMI adapter) wasn't able to get up to 3440x1440 res while my Windows laptop with the same adapter and cable could, I think it was a software issue with the Mac that may or may not have been fixed by now, I haven't checked. I switched the MacBook to a displayport cable and it's been smooth sailing ever since. I'd buy it again if I were in the market.

    • +1

It’s the connection. HDMI doesn’t support a lot of the features of this monitor. DisplayPort is basically mandatory.

  • Any usb-c hub people would recommend to go with this one, especially if looking for 90w PD

    • +2

      😢 you snooze you lose

    • Looks like just a USB-A hub, I think you'd get 1.5A max out per port, 7.5w

    • +2

      Not exactly 90w, but I bought S3423DWC instead. It's 65w usb-c monitor.
I don't do much pc gaming so less brightness and less refresh rate in lieu for Usb C and KVM is ok for me

thanks OP, managed to order 1 before it went OOS

  • Was too busy reading reviews, went to go checkout and missed it! Nooooo!

    • The Brand new ones normally go on special monthly… if you're interested

      • +1

Cheers I've subbed for a notif if it does go on sale

  • Aw shucks, just missed out on this

    VA panel :(

    • +1

Works fine for me with the curve and for 165Hz gaming. And great at this price.

  • I have a blanking issue with this model.
It will random auto-turn off, then turn on in 3 seconds.

Are there anyone having the same issue?

    • +1

Neither of my two monitors have done this before… Have you tried contacting Dell ???

      • +1

My other Dell monitors are working fine, such as U2719DC, S2721QS and S2721DS

Only this S3422DWG has this random blanking issue.
It is very annoying when team fight in LoL

I contacted Dell, they need a video to prove.
I will take a video later.

        • +3

It’s the DisplayPort cable when free sync is enabled. Very common problem. Upgrade to a 1.4 cable and set your minimum frames to 40FPS in Nvidia Control Panel and it will go away.

          • @JSONBourne: I do NOT have a seperate independent graphic card.
I am using Intel Iris Plus Grphics with the latest driver

I already unlock the FPS and using the VESA Adaptive Sync

    • +3

sounds like dodgy cheap cables. i know this sounds weird, but get some high quality display port cables

      • Thanks for suggestion, will try a different usb-c cable later, between my laptop, dock and monitor

        • The Cable Creation USB-C -> DisplayPort cable is what I’m using now and it works great. I purchased it from Amazon.

  • +1

I have this monitor and am certainly satisfied with the purchase. I can easily fit 3 windows and it has been a great productivity wise.

    • Can you screenshare (over ms teams/other) just one of the split screen ?

Also can you use a usb c(from laptop) to dp (monitor) to both charge and display?

      I have a windows and Mac Air(Intel)

      • +2

Just for clarification I was talking about 3 windows on the same OS.

However, you can use PBP (Picture by Picture) function and split the screen amongst two computers if you want. The monitor has one DP and 2 HDMI ports. For M1 Air you need to use DP to USBC cable. For Intel macs you can use HDMI to Thunderbolt 2. I have used both M1 and Intel macbook air without issues, it works better with intel MBA because of the extra ports and separate charging.
