Be thankful you don't have a transport subscription.
Prices in Turkey rise at fastest pace for 24 years [BBC]
In the latest inflation figures, transportation saw the biggest rise in costs, climbing 123% over the past year.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages were close behind with price rises of 94%, while the cost of furnishings and household equipment was up 81%.
be thankful we are buying turkish lira
And also be thankful we don't do Thanksgiving.
Turkey prices reach record highs as Thanksgiving nears
Americans will face a record-high cost for a traditional Thanksgiving turkey this fall because of inflation and a shortage caused by bird flu outbreaks.
The cost of turkey hens — the bird that most often appears on Thanksgiving dinner tables — is currently up 57% compared to its five-year average.
Turkey breast meat has surged to a record of more than $6.50 per pound this year. The same cut cost less than $2 per pound in 2020.
Why complain? Either they provide value with their catalogue or they don't.
Personally, we subscribe when we want something and then can it when it sucks.
Can you tell me where there is a complaint ? I have not written any complaints in my post, I am merely stating that they have increased price again.
Oh right, its a PSA?
I inferred that sharing such banal information on a public forum implies whining. My mistake.
The Lira is not having a good year… Netflix is pretty much keeping the price flat with a bit of a hedge against future decreases in the value of the Lira which seem likely cause the Turkish Government has NFI.
I don't know when the last price change was but assuming 3 months ago
In June the exchange rate was 12.0593 : 1
so the old price = AUD 4.81 (USD3.39) (and it had dropped to AUD$4.64 by 31 August)
today it's 12.5515 :1
so the new price = AUD 5.58 (USD 3.84)
So price increase is maybe 70c (and in USD45c which is what Netflix's accountants are working against no doubt), but across the next 3 months the Lira will probably decrease in value and eventually chew up the price increase which will cause Netflix to bump the price up again.
Thats awful…
still better than buying the standard au prices.
So is Turkey or Argentina better for the 4k top option? Thanks.
Turkey
Just when I thought my NF Turkey subscription was starting to represent good value…
I put a good 8-9 months worth of credit on my Netflix Turkey account a little while back. Paid on the 4K plan until April 2023 :)
might want to check it lol
Pre loading credit doesn't stop future price rises from applying
ignorance is bliss
Haven’t received the notification yet, I think I may drop to the standard plan instead of premium.
Basic 46 TRY
Standard 70 TRY
Premium 94 TRY
I also suspect we will see another increase in few months, so I’m leaving the upcoming pricing for future reference.
Is there a trick to update the payment method with your credit card? Tried pretty much everything and nothing worked. Looks like they closed the loophole with the turkish account.
A polite chat with customer service did it for me a few months back.
Tried that and it did not work :(
Some members mentioned that they kept trying til they got an agent willing to help.
Failing that, you can let it lapse, resubscribe AU membership for one month with the new card. Then buy Turkey giftcard to get back on Turkey Netflix.
Tried that awhile back too and it still came up with an error even with the in-chat form (and the agent couldn't explain why either). Also they've updated security based on account regions so that you can't even login while on a VPN to Turkey or wherever, will just give an error message of 'wrong password'. I reckon with some accounts once you get to this stage there's nothing you can really do but to create a new one (I've also read comments here and elsewhere that they remember your card once you try to add it even if it fails, so that it will keep failing on subsequent tries).
In previous years I've updated my card expiry etc without issues, guess they're finally catching on, even if it was just an unintended side effect of preventing foreign credit card fraud.
The trick to get around that is to login to your account without the VPN, then click on your profile, THEN activate the VPN and click on your account details.
@branners: Yeah ended up figuring it out after posting my message lol. Also don't need to abandon your account once it asks for a turkish phone number, I was simply getting the order steps wrong. It just requires an extra month cycle of subscribing on aussie pricing so you can update your card (doesn't let me update my card, only 'restart' after you cancel your current plan), then once that's locked in use the turkish gift card through vpn for the following month and then you're good to go after that.
@johnjones8: Need some guidance, I had been using Turkish account. I was using gift cards, and the balance ran out. I was hoping that my AU payment method will get charged, but it did not. I got an email asking to update my payment method. When I tried to do that, it was asking for a Turkish phone number.
What am i doing wrong?
There is a roughly 21% price increase all the plans. The current prices for all the three plans currently are:
Streaming Plan Cost in TL Cost in AUD
Basic ₺45.99 ≈ A$3.90
Standard ₺69.99 ≈ A$5.90
Premium ₺93.99 ≈ A$7.90
(FX rate correct as of 1 Oct 2022 23:18 AEST)
I got the email today 🙁

no point getting that worked up for a $1/mth price increase
