True to an extent but overall I disagree. The convenience of the Hue app alone is worth the price. Just pick stuff up on sale or the clearance section at your local Officeworks/Bunnings/etc. The lightstrip might have some cheaper alternatives, but Hue all the way IMO.
I make my own light strips using gledopto controllers. Fully Hue compatible and cost about a third of the price of this one. No idea how they compare in terms of lumens etc but given the price difference it's hard to care.
Is it easy sourcing the materials to make waterproof ones?
+1 would love to know. Would love to be able to run something on the underside of our pool coping (during heavy rain, could be submerged under 5cm-ish of water)
There's one big thing about the Hue outdoor strip that often gets missed in the "I did it cheaper DIY" comparison.
Never mind the outdoor IP rated power supply that you get. Or that the strip itself has all the waterproofing and diffusing taken care of for you.
No, what the Hue strip does is bend horizontally, which means you can snake it around in shapes on the ground with the LEDs oriented up. Show me an Aliexpress led strip that you can do that with.
Ive bought heaps of individually addressed leds, controllers for thus price but still cant find a decent easy way to diffuse them nicely
What is a good price for gledopto controller?
Says it's White in the heading, but 16mill colours in the desc. Amazon… smh.
Part number is colour (pretty sure this only comes in colour fwiw)
"White and colour ambiance" on the box as well. Might still be worth chatting with Amazon before buying if you're worried.
Only hue product I have die on me
Only showing as full price for me for the 5m version.
Pay for the name here. There's other options around, much cheaper, with individually addressable LEDs.
