I gotta say, I wish I had more Velocity points than I do QANTAS points. They seem to have far better availability to/from Europe next year, even before this QATAR partnership came about. Waiting patiently for my 150,000 Velocity points to come in from the Citi personal loan deal

+1 starting to regret hoarding Qantas points my whole FF life :(

      • You can use QFF points on Qatar flights as well.

though for the same dates, you have reward seats with Velocity available but nothing with Qantas…

    • Never too late to start diverting churn activities to VFF.

Well, I am yet to find any rewards business class seat on Qatar on the Virgin site, only economy :-(
(Unless I am doing something wrong)

    • You can buy Velocity points through their app (up to 250,000 per annum) - they have sales on them reasonably regularly and if redeeming them for business class rewards the price is very cost effective

  • OK well there are no award flights from MEL to Sao Paolo for the next 12 months.

  • I applied for a NAB Qantas card today, should have done a velocity one.

I booked return syd to Munich for May 2023 all business on Singapore with Velocity a few months ago , you just got to get on them as they get released 👍👍 good luck everyone

Congrats, love SQ J. What were the points and tax cost?

      • +3

About 260k plus $300 aud taxes. Etihad is easier to find but the taxes are like $700 one way it’s extortion. Hopefully Qatar don’t have too high taxes either

        • +2

Qatar and Etihad have similar tax pricing.

But Singapore increased their points cost a few months back, so Virgin are increasing the $ cost instead of points next month. So SQ $ cost will be close to Etihad/Qatar.

    • How many points did it cost you?

  • I checked for May 23 and it costs 1.5 million point for business class 1 way flight, Mel to London with Qatar: Just curious if that’s normal?

    • +6

It’s not an awards flight per say, it’s paying the retail flight value with points. In other words no reward flights in the traditional sense are available at the point you looked

Do Virgin seem to have MORE availability on Qatar, then Qantas seem to? That clearly seems like Qantas trying to be stingy and not pay for reward seats as much.

I've seen this on Emirates as well where in a week Emirates has Biz availability for 2 weeks (on the dates I picked), but Qantas showed none.

May the flying kangaroo die a slow and agonising death.

Long live Australia's new national carrier!

I literally wouldn't step on a Qantas or Jetstar flight even if they paid me!

    • How else are they going to be able to pay millions to Joyce and co. The money has to come from somewhere and artificially increasing its share value to look like a good company to invest in.

    • Which one you would fly with then?

  • Only one reward seat per flight regardless of how much in advance I search. Impossible to book anything for families.

    • I and friends have consistently got two business award flights on Virgin award flights on Qatar. They’re certainly out there if you time it right
