Best Place for Repair S21 USB-C Port (on The Spot - Sydney)

I've been trying to find good place to repair my charging port for my Samsung S21. The phone is out of warranty and I've been carrying it in my pocket for the last 18 months. As a result, the charging port got full of pocket fluff many times. I've cleaned it with a toothpick and using suction (vacuum cleaner) but it refuses to connect via vable now. I was thinking it'd be a quick easy repair and probably quite common. Was not expecting it to cost hundreds of dollars. What are my best options?

BTW I've been charging wirelessly at home, in the office and in the car but I miss the ultra-fast charging you can achieve with the cable. I've also got some humidity warnings in the past related to the charging port and possibly my jogging in the rain. I don't know if it's an issue caused by humidity or the fluff that was clogging it at one stage.

I don't want to have to send the phone for repair at a service center. There were lots of options for this for my iPhone when I last had one (iPhone 6S so a while ago)

Located in Sydney.

Doesn't it come with a two-year warranty? If so, how is it out of warranty?

Not sure if there are waiting periods or rules around it technically being broken before you have a policy, but I have contents insurance with my phone listed. It was only $100 excess to claim a cracked screen, which was over $400 to replace at a local place in an hour…sending to Samsung was over $500, two days plus postage time…taking it into a Samsung repair location was booked out for weeks…

Otherwise, maybe you could book it in and take it to a Samsung Service Centre?

Have you tried cleaning it with alcohol? Tried a different cable?

Blow it with an Air Duster, also.

Clean it with tweezers, work at a repair shop and rarely ever have to replace S20 charge port.

Vacuum won't do anything, you need to be able to see the back of the charge port when you look in there or it won't connect properly
Its always lint around the corners of the USB C, lightning connector is far easier to clesan

    • Lint around the corners was the problem - I couldn't even see it but the corners weren't shiny so I kept scratching the area with plastic toothpicks and eventually got it out. Charging speed seems so much faster now

  • My S9+ had a moisture issue a few years back, and I took it to Samsung (when they were at Parramatta). I backed up my device, and it was sent to Samsung Yennora. Monday Morning it was dispatched back to me, and I received it Tuesday Morning via Toll-Priority (in Newcastle). They covered it under Warranty.

  • We are in the Era of Wireless chargers, and they are becoming faster at charging. Some models are better than others such as Belkin and Cygnett, however if your device doesn't like it, take it back.
My car has a Wireless charging pad, and I just bit the bullet on a Wireless Android Auto Adapter.

If it is outside of warranty and going to cost hundreds anyway, have a go at repairing it yourself. There's cheap repair kits on eBay (for ~$20) and Youtube videos to guide you through it.

I've done a number of touchscreens, displays and charging points for myself and family in the past. It's surprisingly simple, just following steps and then reversing them to get it all back together again. The one compromise might be on the waterproof sealant around the case, but you can also buy a kit that will do this for you too.

  • Thanks for all the suggestions - might try Samsung directly first - had no idea warranty was for 2 years now

    • update: I've managed to clean this myself with set of flexible plastic toothpicks (white glo branded) - I broke a few because of the lint stuck around corners caused a few problems
