May need to factor in the price hike, $894

    • +59

Hard to swallow the $50 price increase when it's the same hardware that is now nearly 2 years old

      • -4

apparently hardware has been improved with less energy consumption

        https://www.techspot.com/news/95899-new-playstation-5-hardwa…

        • +16

Less material use but still cost more. Energy saving is only due to cost savings through node process reduction, not because better hardware materials is used.

        • So to fix heating and power consumption issues from their previous models, they can pass the costs onto the consumer?

          That's just stupid.

      • +2

Not quite the same hardware, there have been some revisions https://press-start.com.au/news/playstation/2022/08/29/new-p…

        Teardown: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21vJ9XBozeI

But yeah I get what you are saying, would not have expected PS5s to actually increase in price AND still be constantly out of stock years from launch lol.

      • +9

And also they force you to buy the over priced HFW pretty poor on Sony

        • +2

Wait until Gamesmen get their dodgy hands on this new pricing, they're gonna come up with some more nasty stuff to add on.

      • +4

This is the 5 disc console :)

        • +2

My brain always reads it this way… 🤯

Like the old CD stacker in the back of the car…

      • +3

mate Sony fanboys will swallow anything

      • +2

In a normal economic climate…Yes 100% agree with you.
Console should be $100 cheaper by now if you were to follow any past generation console price life cycle.
However with component shortages, transport issues, 30% increase cost of petroleum due to war and conflict in europe coupled with out of control inflation rates, I'm surprised the console didn't increase by $100. This recent model (1200) has cut back internal component costs, but sadly, not enough to avert a $50 increase. The smaller heat sync and changes to the internals isn't enough to stem the tide.

        • +4

          bullshit excuse

Xbox series X has More games with it's gamepass

and is regular 730 bucks at costco and in stock

Same hardware,if not better because the GPU in it's more powerfull

          Sony just being greedy

          • @reader64: That's your opinion….and repetitively broadcast by others for every past generation of XBox.

      • +3

And Horizon was $50 on Amazon….

      • +2

        I know right

It's not like anything unusual happened over the last two years to disrupt global supply chains and inflation is, like, not even a thing

      • +2

Having to buy the bundle is even more hard to swallow. $100 for a game not everyone wants.

        • +3

And it's not even a physical copy.

      • Try almost $150 increase… I got mine only 3 months ago for $749…

    • +3

FWIW, I was more telling the OP to update the price, but yeah I also don't like the idea of supporting such a rise in price 2 years in.

  • +5

Sony is still overcharging you circa $50 even considering console's RRP $799.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Horizon-Forbidden-West-PlayStation…

  • -4

    Your time starts now.

  • lol what the? Why did it go up by $50

      • +45

I think you misspelled "Due to ongoing shortage they're maximising supply/demand effect and taking profits."

Ain't no one believing anything else.

        • +9

There's no shortage - sony is just drip feeding

          • +15

@striker999: I don't think it's in their interest to do that though, given people need to buy the games, where they really make the money. More inclined to believe other companies do that (like Nvidia now with the 40 series coming).

            • -1

@scuderiarmani: I've been told by some employees of game stores that there are no longer stock shortages but Sony is drip feeding console stock to maintain the exclusivity, retailers are only allowed to sell a certain amount of consoles within a certain timeframe so there's always a retailer with stock every few days - a week regularly etc.

              • @striker999: Fair enough, I know Nintendo liked to maintain the exclusivity on occasions too.

Though I believe Australia often doesn't get hit as hard with shortages often like say the US…. We got ontop of GPU's here quicker… Amiibos are another that ring a bell.

              • +16

@striker999: I doubt employees at a game store have any real insider information as to Sonys production capacity and whether they are throttling or not. They’re just guessing like everyone else and drawing assumptions based on how they’re allocated stock.

I also really can’t see how it’s in Sonys interest to keep stock limited and impact their potential market share and game sales. It’s a mass market electronic device which last Gen sold 140 million units or something. Why would they want exclusivity? Yet we hear the same theories any time a console manufacturer has problems meeting demand, despite much of the industry having the same issues right now.

                • +3

                  @Smigit:

I doubt employees at a game store have any real insider information

But striker999's dad totally works for Nintendo

              • +2

                @striker999: Employees of game stores …now there's a reliable source :)

          • +1

@striker999: Ah yes, the very stable genius strategy of making more money by selling fewer products. /s

          • +3

@striker999: Work in semiconductor industry - can confirm the chip shortage is 100% still there and impacting all businesses..

        • +5

Said such things will happen, especially with Nvidia… companies realise people will pay…. Not the least bit surprised.

      • i think he meant to say due to price gauging

        • +2

I think you were meant to say price gouging.

    • +1

Because they are hurting… Their shareprice has almost halved in the past year https://i.imgur.com/MJINfff.png

But with how the economic climate is heading, trying to squeeze as much as possible out of customers could backfire. I know I've stopped trying to get one.

      • It's because they keep doing stupid things.

Some examples that are well known are:

PS3 hacking debacle due to not tacking security seriously and overpriced at launch.
The proprietary memory card and restricted mobile carriers for the Vita.
PSP with only 16GB and expensive proprietary memory which was once again different to the VITA. And this was a digital only console.
And then Abandoning handheld gaming which is currently a bit chunk of the market share for the gaming industry (Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch, etc.)

Even now they keep doing stupid things and don't plan properly.

And with 3 revisions of the PS5 already shows how unprepared their console was not to mention the lack of supply of them as they didn't stockup on parts like Microsoft and Nintendo.

    • +34

      No one cares

      • +6

I'm sure someone on Tiktok will care

    • Do you really have at least one?

  • Won't let me pay deposit amount, still in stock it appears tho

  • Broden approves of this post

  • +11

At this point you might as well wait for the ps5 slim for a price discount.

    • The digital slim would actually be something else!

      • +6

Yeah another $50 price hike for it.

    • +1

If they’ve taken the pretty much unprecedented step to increase prices globally, I’m betting a price drops some way away.

      • -2

Well obviously they cant price the slim model at the launch price or this new inflated price. You have to remember its only applied to Australia first for now. The US will see no increase. Slim model savings will be based on the US launch pricing.

        • +5

You have to remember its only applied to Australia first for now.

UK, Japan, China, Australia, Mexico and all Euro countries. 🤦

          • @PainToad: Among others. Canada also got an increase. It was basically global except the US.

  • When will they release PS6? :)

    • +11

      Before the PS7

  • +29

So, they want $50 more for the console and are charging $95 for the digital version of a game that's $50 for a physical copy? These bundle deals are BS.

  • +14

Insane to charge $50 more considering the game is now worth half the price.
Oh god it's even a digital download. Wow.

  • +4

    $894.95

    ouch 🤕

  • +5

Even If I get a PS5 now the games are so expensive.

think ill hold off for now

    • +1

      BF 2042 only $5

      • +6

I should have said good titled games.

  • +5

I thought I was going to get a PS5, but guess I'll put that money to a graphics card instead.

    • HODL

      • HODOR

  • +7

The thing that I keep coming back to, stock levels and price increase notwithstanding, is that it doesn't seem like either this or the Series X has a killer app yet?

Is that a fair appraisal or have I missed something?

    • +2

Have both, don't think they do personally.

Though the differences are only going to get smaller and smaller each generation IMO.

    • +1

Series X has a killer app yet?

Backwards compatibility (with improved resolution and FPS).

      • Not saying that it counts for nothing, just that's more of a feature than a standalone thing that you can't access anywhere else.

  • +3

Another ps5 stock thread in which people will come and complain about how expensive it is, that has no games or expensive ones just to find out it will be gone in a few hours.

Meanwhile, the Series X console has been in stock to pre-order at the same site for the last 2 weeks.

    • +1

I don't understand your second paragraph? If the xbox is available, it just means they're able to acquire more stock?

  • +1

    It's a SONY!

  • +1

is this the new model 1202b or old model??

    • I’d say if it’s the new higher price then it’d be the new version, however with these bundles retailers could just jack up the price of the old version and hide this fact in the bundle because most people would never know..

      • +1

The price increased for existing old models too. Australia was the first to get the new model yet the price increased immediately in other countries who hadn't got the new model.

  • +1

    Still in stock, wow!

    • because its a rip off now.

      • +2

was cheaper on GUNTREE off the SCAPLERS

  • +25

So they increased their prices, and then this is the new rrp, and there is no discount out of the current rrp. So how come this is a deal? Its not my problem if they cant manufacture enough to meet the demand.

    • +8

It kinda is your problem if you want to own a PS5.

      • +11

The good thing about video game consoles and inflation, compared to say transportation and food, purchasing video game consoles aren't essential.

        • +3

Which is crazy because the amount of people I know cry poor but then have one these or both is sky high. We really are in a frontier of consumer products being a large part of your identity

          • @abuch47: Yep, the same people often have pretty expensive phones, multiple streaming subscriptions, etc etc.

Being poor is a lot more expensive than it used to be!

      • Nope. It is interesting cost of the problems in the supply chain is completely reflected to the customers and you defend it so hard on a bargain chasing website. What an irony.

What do you benefit from being a Fanboy? Do they give you free games?

    • Agreed. PS5 is half way through it's cycle now, and they're increasing the price and forcing these bundles with shitty games or extra controllers.

      • +4

It’s not half-way through its cycle. More like one quarter. We might see a PS5 Pro - even though I don’t yet see a strong reason to launch a faster model. There are barely any PS5-only titles. Most are cross-gen and do not max out what the PS5 can do.

        • +1

Yeah, I expect this generation to stretch longer than the last, and a 5Pro and Xbox equivalent are likely as there'll be gamers who will want a solid 4k/60+fps option

    • +1

ozrrp is the new deal these days with things…

  • -1

this 1 per drop or account anyone confirm? PlayStation 5 Console - Horizon Forbidden West Bundle (Strictly 1 Per Customer)

    • In previous "deals", people who have brought one and then tried to buy another months later for a family member have had their orders cancelled. It's one per customer across all the drops.
