What Is The Maximum Discount on Gift Cards from HCF?

I regularly purchase high ticket items from JB Hi-Fi and Apple.

In regard to the HCF discount, does anyone know the max for each card? I haven't signed up yet so I can't view it. I'm currently with NRMA and whilst I get 5% on Apple cards, I'm only getting 3% on JB HI-Fi cards and it's a max of $200 per card, I'm averaging 4k per transaction in JB Hi-Fi. So, as you can imagine this is annoying because I'll have to bring in 20 cards each time whilst those nerds in there try upsell me and waste my whole day.

Thanks guys

Happy bargaining

  • redeem your gift card is 5 percent and 1000 max

    • Thank you. Didn't know about them. How do one get the promo code to buy giftcards?
Figured out use the code EGIFTCARDS to access. Thanks to another OzB post.

    • How quickly do they provide the card though? I heard some people waiting multiple days, that's simply not an option for me personally due to the circumstances which surround this particular business. My current provider emails me the cards instantly after purchase. There's not even a 1 minute delay, it's fully automated.

They're wasting your time? You're the one with 20 gift cards that need to be processed.

Imagine the workers reaction when you tell them.

Give me a good deal or I'll redeem 20 gift cards

I'm a customer who spends 4k per day in store. They should roll out the red carpet quite frankly. Upselling customers is a predatory endeavour, not to mention wasting my valuable time. I think what I said was perfectly reasonable.

      • So you're a reseller?

        • I'll take that as a yes @ben5000. Lmao you claiming "predatory endeavour" is laughable being a reseller 😂

      • Can you negotiate your own discount based on the volume/frequency you're buying?

  • Convert to ah e-gift card. Some like the tcn can do it. Then you can have unlimited e gift cards

Annoying cause 100 is the max. So it's a lot of typing. And data entry

  • HCF Thank You sells JB Hi-Fi gift cards in a $20-$500 variable load denomination, so you can choose to load a specific amount (down to the cent) between and including those two amounts. For example, if you want a $399.50 JB Hi-Fi gift card, HCF Thank You will let you purchase that.

However, keep two things in mind:

    • There is an unavoidable 1% transaction fee for all gift card purchases on HCF Thank You, and this fee is applied to the cost of the discounted gift card. For JB Hi-Fi gift cards, the advertised 5% off discount will end up actually being a 4.05% discount after taking the fee into account. For example, if you add a $500 JB Hi-Fi gift card to the cart, it will be discounted to $475, but a $4.75 transaction fee will then be added to the cost of the card.

    • Someone once redeemed 81 (TCN/Ultimate) gift cards in one transaction in-store at JB Hi-Fi, so I don’t really see too much of an issue if you have 20 JB Hi-Fi gift cards to redeem… Having said that, if you were going to redeem a lot of gift cards in one in-store transaction, I would personally have all the gift cards ready to be scanned by storing them on an app (e.g. Stocard) or printing them all out. I would also go to JB Hi-Fi when there are fewer customers around, so it would be easier to have a staff member assigned to you for a few minutes whilst they help you redeem a stack of gift cards.

    • Thanks man, sounds like I'll go with that. 500 is definitely more reasonable. I think the cheapest coverage I could find on HCF came out to about $27 per month? does that sound alright?

      • I'm assuming that is the cost of the base tier Extras policy? If so, that is probably right. I suggest you look at this comment for a link to the full terms and conditions of HCF Thank You, which includes which HCF policies will grant you access to HCF Thank You.

A couple of other points to consider:

        • There is a total weekly spend limit of $2,500 per week on HCF Thank You, and this is irrespective of the type or number of gift cards you purchase in that period. (The $2,500 refers to the actual amount you spend on gift cards inclusive of the transaction fee, not the face value of gift cards.)

        • Clause 20 of the HCF Thank You terms and conditions mentions something about discounting rules and being disqualified from HCF Thank You for 12 months if you exceed your maximum allowable discount, but I had a quick look at the applicable legislation and cannot determine in what circumstances this would actually apply.

        • Clause 33 and 34 essentially state that HCF can terminate your access to HCF Thank You for any reason whatsoever, including any unreasonable or commercial use of HCF Thank You.

Oh, well that renders HCF utterly useless in this context. I appreciate you saving me a heap of time with that one. I'll continue my search then. Thanks

          • @ben5000: Have you looked at Redeem Your Gift Card? There are two different versions you can access by grabbing the password from the OzBargain discounted gift card page.

The gift cards stocked on each portal (and discounts) may differ between portals, so it is worth comparing them to see what works. However, I can see Ultimate gift cards (5% for versions including JB Hi-Fi), JB Hi-Fi gift cards (4%), The Good Guys gift cards (4%) and Harvey Norman gift cards (3.5%) on both portals.

A couple of things to note:

            • There is a $1 delivery fee for each gift card you purchase.
            • The only accepted payment method is bank transfer.

@WookieMonster: I've been using the 10% off 'Her' gift cards this week, thanks to Woolworths generous 10 cards per transaction. As for redeem your gift card I've heard one too many delivery delay reports. People saying it took up to 12 days to get their eGift cards. I may consider them in future when these 10% off deals dry up but for now I'll keep stocking up at Woolies. Thanks mate!!

  • I'm member of Ambassador Card. Their membership is around $199 per year, I paid a lot less as I used to be AGL member before they spliited, thus why I paid cheaper.

Their JB Hi-Fi discounted gift card is 5% with daily order of $1000 and maximum monthly $5000. I can tell you more if this membership is for you.

    • ypu can get the ambassador card through COTA membership. $42 per year https://cotamembership.org.au/member-benefits/

      • Thank you. Will definitely do thus for future renewal.

    • 5k max monthly won't be suitable, I'm in exports and often spend in excess of 50k per month or more in just Jbhifi, not to mention the other retailers. I also need discounted cards for Harvey Norman, Good Guys and Officeworks. no monthly limits. Thanks for contacting me, your help is appreciated.

  • macqaurie bank marketplace is a 5000 daily limit and apple is 5 percent off

  • +1

Mate, doesn't matter how much is the limit, you will soon be banned from those platforms as I'm sure they have some sort of fair use policy ingrained somewhere. With the 50k monthly transactions it won't be long before their computer algorithm picks up the anomaly and you'll be serve a prompt email to explain your spending, next step you'll be on watch list and the road to permanent ban is just a matter of time.

Nah I already rang and asked them. My current gift card portal is unlimited volume, no limits at all. They are more than happy to supply me with as much gift cards I need.

  • Banks have a legal obligation to avoid money laundering, or they can get BIG fines, so be aware of this. may need to provide business credentials
