Where to get a laptop heatsink fan cleaned?

Hi everyone, does anyone know any good cheap places in Melbourne CBD or South Eastern suburbs to get the heatsink fan cleaned in my laptop? How much roughly would this cost? And can anyone recommend any places to me?

It is a Toshiba laptop.

Thanks in advance.

I'd expect 30min to do it, plus parts. While you're getting the fan cleaned, you might as well replace the thermal compound. It really depends on how well designed your laptop is. If it's just the case of unscrewing the bottom, then you could do it in 10 minutes. If you have to remove the keyboard and other panels, could take much longer

    Do it yourself

    • screwdriver
    • compressed air can
    • arctic silver 5
    • alcohol swab (or alcohol in bottle + cotton wool)
  • If you carefully use a vacuum you can get rid of a lot of the fluff/lint/dust that accumulates on the fan.

  • Youtube your model to check to see if there is already a tear down procedure you could follow. Then u can decide if your willing to do it yourself depending on how hard it is.

Turn it upside down and bash against the desk until dust stops falling out.

This method works great but sometimes I find that it leaves dents in the desk. For best results, bash the laptop on your head.

This is probably a good page to get started with if you want to find out how to properly disassemble your laptop for cleaning and/or repairs.

From my experience most mainstream consumer laptops generally have pretty accessible innards, all it takes is a screwdriver to remove the bottom cover from the chassis and you should be able to reach the fan with an anti-static brush.
For the heatsink, can either remove the dust with a compressed air can or just use your lung power.
