  • excellent headphone for the price. woud benefit from a 'warm' amp (such as a class amp or tube)

  • -1

Great headphones. Between the 770, 880, and 990 these are my favorites. They're very bright though

  • Great headphones, but keep in mind they are "semi open" so there will be noise bleed in and out

  • Would these be good for ps5 gaming or do we need an amp

    • Will need an amp for these.. I mean you can plug it in, and sure it will play some sound, but not great. I notice that the controller tends to run out of battery quicker when plugging in heavier cans like this. What I'm trying to say is if it's mainly for gaming purposes, maybe not this set.

      • Many thanks for the advice

      • Agree, get the 32 ohm version, or at least the 250 ohm which still sounds reasonable without an amp. Best with a DAC and amp as mentioned though.

  • Would a Yamaha RX-V381 av receiver be able to power these ok?

    • +1

Yes, almost one of the best matches

Yamaha lists the front headphone jack output as 100 mV/470 ohm which is high for AV receivers. Others have noted the 32 and 250 ohm versions of the 880 sound almost too warm with similar Yamaha receivers so the 600 with the standard bright signature will be nicely balanced

      • The impedance curve suggests that the design of the circuit would be important to deal with a 725 ohm peak at around 80-100Hz, so if it can't deal with the additional voltage swing smoothly (600 being the minimum), you get flabby mid-bass.

It's not a particularly warm headphone otherwise, so you're then relying on a bass boost or some treble smoothing from the amp or DAC design (these days, usually the DAC).

    • Should be fine imo, I had the 600ohm and used an aventage amp long ago until I got a proper headphone amp

  • how would these compare to the Shure SRH1440?
