Kamati Gourmet Santoku Knife 18cm $13.50 + Delivery ($0 MEL C&C/ to Metro with $99 Order) @ Mega Boutique

30

Seems to be a good price.

Info:

A wide scalloped blade makes Santoku knives ideal for the precision slicing and dicing of fruit and vegetables. The scalloped indentations create air pockets, pushing food from the blade and reducing friction when slicing. The flat blade edge relies on a more singular downward cutting action, compared to the two-step slicing and rocking action of a cook's knife.

The Japanese-style blade edge is hand applied at a 20° angle. The handle is made from tactile DuPont™ and is ergonomically shaped for comfort and to minimize fatigue.

Features:

Wide scalloped blade for precision slicing and dicing
Fully forged from high quality German stainless steel
Hand-applied 20° blade edge for superior sharpness

  • How good is this compared to global

    • The only thing remotely Japanese about this knife is that it's in a santoku style.

No details about the quality of steel, manufacturing process, or where it's from, so considering that I wouldn't expect it to be a "quality" product.

The only reason it's $13 is because it would never sell at rrp. Could buy Victorinox or mercer at that price

    • I was given a block of these knives as a gift and wasn't too sure about them. So far so good but they do need to be sharpened more than any other branded knife I've owned.

      • Interesting, we usually get cheap knives like from kmart and so on and never sharpened them.
Im always on the lookout though for a great knife on a great special just to see how much better they are

        • I guess that would depend of how tolerant you are with blunt knives, and the degree to which you have experienced an extremely sharp knife

Personally having experienced a great degree of sharpness from mine, I'm a lot less tolerant of "blunt" knives.

But to experience a "great knife" at a "great special" (not too sure what that means) you'd still be spending close to $120 per knife
