Rate My 7 Year Amazon PC Build

This will be my 4th PC in 20 years.
I do not do upgrades mid-lifecycle. I like to build it once, use it than will build another one in approximately 7 years.
Graphic card will be the next deal on OZB. Probably a 3070.
Will be powering 1 QHD monitor and 2 FHD monitors.

        Gaming. Hardcore porn.

      • You hardcore game once every 7 years?

        • Yes. I'm like Uranus.

  • Looks good. I run a Motherboard Name Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro AX i got as a 'refurb' from JW Computers for like $100 or so; its stable, no issues. I just have the stock fan at present, its loud, good you are getting a alternate cooler but I just cbf/can't afford at present, though I would much prefer a better air cooler over a liquid cooler

500GB NVMe is a poor decision. Go at least 1TB

    • +1

500 is plenty if you have other drives to dump stuff into. But I’m not up on the price difference. I’d rather have a faster 500 than a slower 1TB

      • +2

500 is plenty if you play less than a handful of the big titles. COD needs at least 150. Forza Horizon 5 needs another 100.

500GB M.2 is a slowish PCIe 3.0 interface and is only 500GB. With the 5700X you may want to consider getting a faster and 1GB M2 PCie 4.0.

The DRAM is only 3200Mhz and you have not mentioned the timing. I use 3600Mhz CL18 memory on a 5700G. You may want to look into the RAM a bit more to get the best speed for your 5700X. Also be aware it it NOT advisable to mix different memory, so if you want 64GB get it all at once.

The B550 motherboard is good and allows you to add another M2, but they are NOT the same. Read the specs to see the differences.

    • Good information. I had zero knowledge regarding timings.

3070 will barely cope gaming at 4k+ resolutions :/ Guess you can use DLSS on a few titles :/

    • Just 1440p

      • So only playing on one monitor, not three? Total resolution FAR more important than the number of lines :/

        5400 x 1440 is just as many pixel to process as 3840 x 2160 (4k) …

  • I get out of mum's basement now and again.

I'm impressed that your SSD "Opens in a new tab". How often does that happen though? Might get annoying over 7 years.

I'd dump the aio, and replace with $35 tower cooler. You would end up with one fan going in and 4 taking out.

  • OP, I suggest keeping a separate upgrade cycle for GPU (2-3 years) as they usually become obsolete much sooner thanks to graphics advancements.

Upgrading GPU is a lot easier than upgrading a CPU and you can sell the old card for good money.

  • My build cycle is about the same as yours and I'm due to build another one. Last time around, the popular opinion was to avoid thermaltake PSUs as there were some reliability issues. You might have google around to see if that's still a "problem".

Run a still serviceable 2013 MacBook Air - no issues, does everything I want.
