Suggestions for Waterproof, Lightweight Everyday Pants That Don't Look Silly

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for suggestions for waterproof or at least water resistant pants for everyday wear that would mean I can commute without a massive umbrella and don't end up with damp pants or wet legs. Going into spring, this is less needed, but I've been wanting these for a while and have struggled to find something appropriate, and I want to finish my search!

Issues I have had looking so far:
- I don't want over the top hiking/trekking pants, or snowsport pants. When looking for everyday waterproof pants, I found that most pants marketed as waterproof are for sports and serious outdoor stuff.
- Lightweight and not super thick. Similar to above, I'm hoping to get something that isn't super heavy and still feels very breathable/comfortable sitting down, standing up, commuting. Lots of pants seem to be multi layered and look like they would be quite hot to wear. Ideally I want one layer, or one layer plus thin waterproofing layer.
- Price. Happy to spend a bit (e.g. I like Patagonia) for quality and longevity, but don't want overkill like many serious snowsports hiking etc. pants would be. So ideally no more than say $120.

Appreciate any product suggestions and advice. Thanks!

I have a bunch of tech wear but I usually just wear regular pants unless it's bucketing down because bottom half usually doesn't get too wet, would be a different story if you're riding. I reckon something that dries quickly would be a better bet.

Something like this could do you fine, they also sell waterproof shoes https://www.smiffys.com.au/products/hooped-clown-costume

    • Those pants look like they would catch some rain

    • We all float down here…

I know nothing about the subject you speak of. But when people list 3 properties they want in a thing, I'm compelled to reply with:

    You can only choose two.

My issues aside, perhaps scotchguard some existing pants?

  • All pants become silly pants eventually.
