While it's not guaranteed true, it doesn't seem strange either. It shows the black ones as made in Australia, and the white is in China. White is the basic around the world so it's common for China to produce that as they have the lowest cost, but don't always customise/vary so well. Whereas Australia often does the custom/specialist things which this would fall into.
It's a mistake. I bought the black ones which have just arrived - packaging clearly states "Made in China".
HPM is a well known brand.
Welcome to Australia!
HPM is a subsidiary of Legrand.
Seems as though Amazon are price matching Bunnings. Bunnings have it for the exact same price: https://www.bunnings.com.au/hpm-6-outlet-black-standard-powe…
What was the original price? Tia
Not sure about Bunnings, but Amazon shows RRP as $8.65, so only a $2.12 saving. These boards are the cheapest of the cheap and I would personally stay away. Cheap boards tend to omit a high-pitched frequency, like a buzzing sound. This can get annoying if you need to sleep with them in the same room.
This emits nothing, no usb ports. Concern could be the contacts, some cheapies touch with only a point contact instead of plate to plate
@GlobalWorming: What has USB ports got to do with anything? I have bought these cheap boards before with no USB ports and they emit a buzzing sound
@PleasureMe: Buzzing sound usually make switching power supply for charging usb ports. Plain power boards dont have any power circuitry.
If this one does make sounds, its minutes from catching fire.
@GlobalWorming: These are perfect. Have some desks at work that don't have quite enough sockets - dual screens, laptop charger, standing desk power, etc.
This I'll insert in the basket bracket under the desk and plug in items that aren't changed much - ie 2 screens power.
@GlobalWorming: They did say omit, not emit
Lol sound, first time hearing this.
We have all sorts at gome some expensive and some cheap, a lot cheapee than than this and none make sound
You can get arlec ones from Kmart for about $2.50, what is better about these?
The Kmart ones feel like toys though. I've used one once and didn't feel confident in it.

The plugging action has always been better with HPM power boards. It feels more secure especially if plugged/unplugged often.
Is there any reason I should get HPM over Click? Click at bunnings is about $2 cheaper for the 6 point
Yeah, I just bought the Click one… Honestly would rather have bought the HPM over the Click if I had known they stocked them, but as long as there is an equal chance of the house engulfing, I don't mind.
to be honest usc ports on all power cords are necessary today
Most built in USB ports are garbage that don't support the latest charging standards. I almost always plug in a charger even if built in ones are available for that reason
They are good for charging my wifes vibrator.
Maybe you should invest in your sexual health…
@Truck-kun: At least he invested in hers.
@Truck-kun: Self pleasure is healthy, I am sure you are friends with Mrs Palmer
@Truck-kun: buying sex toys IS investing in your sexual health (for both participants)
She's gotta get pleasure from somewhere.
I got one for your wife's vibrator too.
youre right. however even a USBA slow charging port can be handy in times
Bought 3 black ones on 25/11/2021 @ $2.40 each on Amazon. Working fine.
i heard black ones are bigger, glad you enjoyed them
Looked at the 6 port option but describing it for the "budget constrained" does give me some pause
Same brand with surge protection costs an extra $8, probably worth it:
https://www.amazon.com.au/HPM-Protected-Powerboard-R105PA-6B…
I heard all powerboards in australia had to be sold with surge protection… Was it just my imagination?
I think you confused surge protection with overload protection. Power boards must have overload protection, surge protection is optional.
Surge protection tries to protect against voltage spikes from e.g. lightning. Overload protection protects against someone plugging in a kettle and a microwave into one power board and overloading the cables or socket which could lead to a fire.
Got 2x thanks OP
lol, amazon and bunnings always at each others' necks, but behind consumers' backs (no public price matching policy against the other for either company)
I have couple of the whites ones. They work as expected. The buzzing noise happens when the plug isn’t inserted properly or a bit loose. Make sure to push it all the way (that’s what she said).
This (HPM) or the Belkin ones via GGC for WFH set up?
link to belkin ones? how much are they?
I'm looking for an OzBargain recommended powerboard that has master/slave feature so when I turn on/off the tv, the home theatre and chromecast turn on/off. Any suggestions? Is that the way any of you set up your tv or is there a better way?
With the old Logitech Harmony remotes, you can setup an "Action" that involves turning off all the devices and map that action to a button on the remote itself. Therefore, you just have to press a button to turn everything off.
can also do this with an IR blaster (Broadlink, for example)
How do you turn a Chromecast off using a remote? Those "standby detecting" power boards can simply cut the power.
Theres no off for a chromecast, all you can do it pull the power
I used to have this sort of set up, but then decided I wasn't comfortable having my game console, home theatre etc turning on and off via hard power cut on a regular basis.
Not sure I need one but at that price why not
Thanks Op got one
Just got the black one delivered and shame it is made in China
Both my black 6 and 4 ports are made in China
Thanks OP, needed a few cheapos
Strange that they are both HPM brand, but one says China and the other says Australia. Something doens't seem right there. Not sure if I trust the description in Amazon. I have seen them make mistakes in their descriptions before.
