IKEA Clearance Products - What Happens When They Don't Sell?

Hi

Anyone have experience seeing IKEA products go on clearance and what then eventually happens if it doesn't sell? Do they put them out for massive clearance and take it off the website?

Context: there was an IKEA Tradfri lightbulb set that was $77, which had been marked down to $55 until 30 August. Yesterday (31 August) the link to the product page stopped working and today it's not there at all. I'm fairly sure it's not that they've sold out as there were 100s when I checked in August. It's also not to be confused with another almost identical set which is currently listed for $77 - that's a newer model which is slightly better but I don't mind for my purpose.

Thanks

They take it out the back and smash it before putting it in the bin.

Source: I came across an old lady who had been stuck wandering the store looking for an exit for three months. This is what she told me.

How many meatballs did she eat in 3 months?

You forgot to mention that she said she was the size of Fat Albert when she came in and was the size of a standard old lady when you saw her.

      • More like Homer size when he tried to get excuse for WFH.

  • Try dumpster diving in their bins and report back.

so stores at the checkouts on the side sell floor stock and excess old stock
    might have ended up there

    • Thanks yes this is my recollection but I recall these still being listed on the website

Don’t underestimate the purchasing demand when something is even 5% off.

The stock in the clearance section in-store isn’t listed online. So might be worth a visit.

Note any unsold stock could be shipped to other stores or countries even.

        • I would agree. Sometimes at IKEA people seem to over buy because you don't go there often (there is so few stores).

If there is a few left they might do an Aldi and do store specific deep reductions to get it moved. No point keeping it on the website if only 1 store has 100 of them and the rest is down to a few.

Any clearance products that don’t sell in short order are buried with the designer. Seems like a fitting send-off to me, and it’s a nice incentive to make sure people take their job seriously.

P.S. Tradfri is Swedish for screams from six feet under. Silly name considering you’d be lucky to hear anything without an ear to the ground

  • It’ll sell eventually..

Probably the scratch and dent areas.

    They always sell

  • Staff xmas presents.

  • They just keep marking it further down and down in that huge pile near the checkouts, or until someone pinches it.

They grind them up and use them in the meatballs.
