  • It is funny how these CPUs were announced at the beginning of the year and only now we are seeing laptops with these chips at reasonable prices

    • Still cheaper than brick and mortar I'm guessing though.

    Hmm…for $1400, you can get the 90Hz, 2.8K 400nit screen…

    • where at??

      • The same model, just upgrade the screen when you click Build Your PC

        • ah cheers, really dont wanna wait 6-7 weeks though ouch

I am wondering whether these laptops going to come with more RAM options one day. That's the only one thing holding me back from jumping on it.

    • +2

Agree. I am finding 32gb becoming more and more desirable as I hit the limits with my 16gb machine.

I think next gen will have common 32 GB options. And RDNA3. Just need to hold for 12 more months

  • Solid deal, tempted even though it doesn't make sense for me!

  • Anyone with experience with these processors in this chassis know how they go with thermal throttling? When at home I use a chunky gaming laptop because i need to connect to a couple of screens and run many data intensive programs simultaneously(as well as having the ability to take my work onsite with me). I guess what i am asking is would this manage that or will things slow down?

  • Thanks OP, unfortunately the Lenovo education store isn't as easy to bypass as Apple. Is there a workaround for this?

  • What is Lenovo's quality like now?

A lot of ozbargainers seem to recommend Dell computers and don't recommend Acer etc.

Is Lenovo on the same rung as Acer? Or are they better/worse?

    • Generally the quality depends on the "tier" of the item purchased. If im not mistaken, these ideapads are something like mid-range consumer-grade laptops; not bottom of the barrel, but not industry-leading reliability and durability either.

  • Is it possible to get a Lenovo Education account for a primary school student in SA who doesn't have a .edu address?

I got this laptop (the $1232 version with the 6800HS). It's an absolute banger of a machine and, honestly, I think the future. I got New World loaded up on High image resolution settings in 1440p and was getting 30 FPS. Genuinely floored that a form factor this light and thin could produce gaming that good. Given the price saving, and not bulking out the build with thermals + dedicated GPU as well, I hope all laptop CPUs go in this direction.

Battery has been excellent. When not taxing the iGPU i'm getting 5-6 hrs of solid use. And the power efficiency claims about the 6800HS chip are true from what I can see, you unplug the laptop and do not experience a noticeable difference in performance. An actual ultraportable!!!

The RAM might make it a little less future proof than I would like (would have preferred a 32 GB option), but honestly I won't likely be using it in a setting that will require 32 GB unless a lot of software RAM requirements increase massively in the next few years. Even when running New World off integrated GPU + shared RAM it had a few GB left to give.

I wish the 2.8k/400 nit option would have been ready to ship earlier than 6-7 weeks. Have had to use max brightness at times indoors, and haven't tried it outdoors but I can tell it would be an issue if you're planning to use it outdoors.

The build quality is quite sturdy, no screen warble or hinge issues. Feels strong and sharp to the touch and good keyboard experience (I use bluetooth mouse mostly so can't comment on trackpad).
