Looking for a Stand Alone Internet Radio

I'd like to get a dedicated internet radio for the kitchen, something like the Roberts Stream 94L. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or whether it's worth exploring the various ones available on Aliexpress and similar sites?

I'm honestly not sure how they compare, but I often use my Google Home to play radio stations

    • My first thought was a Nest Hub, tend to be pretty cheap at under $100. Not amazing speakers but it can always just be paired with another set.

Comes down to what is being listened to exactly though. RadioApp has a lot of stations on it though, which makes it easy.

you mean DAB + ? make sure your city has it.

sangean has several different models, they are a good brand. do you want the option of AM / FM as well? most DAB + radios do not come with AM, they only come with FM.

i have this one and it is good, though it is a bit more expensive now, it is one of the few DAB + radios that comes with AM and FM.

it says "portable" but it is large, suitable for a permanent placement.

Hey thanks! And sorry I wasn't more clear - DAB isn't something I'm after, just Internet streaming radio stations and AM/FM. Ability to act as bluetooth speaker would also be nice I suppose.

Could you just not get a Bluetooth or wifi speaker and then stream music to it via your phone. I use sonos across my house and it’s perfect. App has all the local radio stations as well that you can listen to it as well via your speakers.

    • yep sure could (and currently do) but I'm looking for a dedicated device in this instance.

If you're a bit Tech Savvy, you could look at using a Raspberry Pi.

    Also this

    • Nice yeah I'd considered do some kind of Pi project for this if I can't find anything worth buying

You can also use google home devices to play internet radio as well, but you need to know the exact name, "hey google play fresh fm 92.7" but internet radios are easy to use for some.

  • Gracedigital is a brilliant alarm/clock/internet radio.

  • What about a Meta Portal? It's $79 at the moment, can run deezer for internet radio, as well as Spotify, Plex, Zoom, or any other website like YouTube through its browser. When you're not listening it can become a photo frame. It has front-facing speakers and a woofer at the rear.

It's really cheap as Meta is getting out of the consumer product line, so that's one thing to keep in mind.

  • Hmm interesting. I got a free Alexa speaker off a AGL promo yonks ago that tunes into internet radio, and does Bluetooth. It has aux out - then you could use it with a old style AM/FM reciever with amp setup

The Roberts Stream 94L looks pretty good

On Amazon there’s ‘ TUNERSYS WiFi Internet Radio Tuner Stereo Amplifier Network Receiver with Bluetooth 100W’ - but it doesn’t have conventional radio and it like $330 AUD

  • Thanks for all your thoughts everyone. I'm wondering now if I go a different way with this and get something like the Sangean WR-11BT for the aesthetics/manual controls, and just connect an old phone in a wireless cradle to do the internet part for me.
