I have 3 of these (bought 1 then 2 more after that first one went fine). Not this seller. Happy to take any questions but a few comments:
- we used one of these on the bedside table as it's so convenient with a young baby not having to find light switch / phone or speak to Google / Alexa in the middle of the night
- I would personally have liked the minimum brightness to be dimmer but we just turn it away a bit and it's fine
- connects to Home Assistant via BLE but a bit flaky with status updates (possibly a signal strength issue, not sure)Yes I also have these and they work well.
Can you program these to only work during a period of time?
Are these battery operated?
Battery operated.
And don't think so on the "only work during a period" - but the light only turns on when lux falls below a certain level so not like it's draining (a lot) of battery all the time. In fact, I've had mine for 9 months+ and am still on the original AA batteries.
I suspect this isn't the Home Assistant/BLE enabled model. FWIW I've had no problems with BLE signal strength on HA with the BLE model.
Doesnt look to have BT. I have the dumb models and they are good for blackouts. I think they use AA's.
"FWIW I've had no problems with BLE signal strength on HA with the BLE model."
Yeah that's how it is with the bluetooth on that version. Even when you use the App to control the settings it asks you to be right next to it and trigger the motion sensor otherwise the app can't pick it up. It is by design probably to get the great long term battery life.
huh? @madpig83 said they'd had issues with BT, I was just saying I hadn't had issues.
The lux sensing for home assistant is only activated on motion, and also can sense dark and light (rather than granular readings like other zigbee lux/motion sensors)
@bdl: Apologies I misread your comment, I thought you were adding to madpig's comment but now I read you are not having a problem with signal.
was going buy a few.. esp for kids. then thought stuff that ..they can walk into walls and learn the hard way I did as a kid.
Thats the only way they learn!
Tactile feedback
I have this in the hallway for the in laws nightly trip to the bathroom from their room as the light switch is actually pass the bathroom from their room. works great.
My dad and in-laws came over, saw mine and immediately wanted one. Very handy.
OP please get more of these and sell them to me thank you very much
I think this is the non Bluetooth version because there is a "Night Light 2 non bluetooth" version as well.
A tip for newbies apparently the "Mi" logo needs to be the right way up for the light to work properly. Don't ask me why but if the light is bugging out leave it with the logo the right way up for awhile it solved the issue with mine.
Also they only include 1 mounting piece with single use adhesive, so think it out well before sticking it to the wall. Probably best you do it at night or whenever you plan to have it switch on and test the light location with another person. I wiped the surface clean and let it dry before sticking, they stick very well with no sign of coming off.Great lights battery life from the 3x AA's lasts 8 to 12 months on average.
Here are some differences of the Bluetooth version.
Bluetooth version.
- when triggered the light comes on "gradually" in a soft way which is good for in the middle of the night. The non bluetooth one comes on in an instant.
- more fine control of brightness level in the app, old one just has a switch for 2 modes, dim or bright (min or max).
- you can control the duration the light stays on with the App, anywhere from 10 seconds to a minute I think. Obviously longer reduces battery life.
- you can control how dark the room needs to be before the motion triggers the light, e.g. afternoon, evening, midnight (pitch black). I use mine for night lights and have it on pitch black to further extend battery life.I got the Bluetooth ones that were Fulfilled by Amazon (sold by AZ eShop) for around $22 to $24 each. There are two Amazon listings so if you want Bluetooth get the ones sold by "AZ eShop", not "ezoneshopAU" they sell Night Light 2 with no bluetooth. The two shop names are similar so be careful.
This is the listing for the Bluetooth ones they seem to be sold out right now https://www.amazon.com.au/Xiaomi-Motion-Activated-Night-Ligh…Apologies. I mistakenly wrote "3x AAA's" instead of "3x AA's". These lights take AA batteries.
double or triple as?
I thought double.I had already made the correction but maybe you were still seeing the old comment. As you can see from the apology comment above I fixed my error before your comment.
available at amazon with prime for $22.18 delivered
(non BT - no batteries included i think).
https://www.amazon.com.au/Xiaomi-Motion-Activated-Night-Ligh…?Yeah no batteries included in all models.
OP, what exact model is this light? Is it the bluetooth-enabled one with model mjyd02yl ? Xiaomi calls the bluetooth functionality "Smart link".
