Yokohama Tyres - G055 for 2008 Kluger - Need 4 Tyres

Hi - looking for any advice from members about Yokohama Geolandar G055 HT (ECO) tyres.

The one I am looking at is reasonably priced at $180 (Tempe Tyres) but online forums consider anything non-Michelin to be dubious. Most online reviews (not many I could find though) suggest wet performance is poor and tyres have high noise levels. The tyres are for my Kluger (245/65/R17).

Any user experience from members will help me please.

I like Bridgestone tyres myself; sometimes they have a buy three get one free offer

  • Ooops apologies for my bad! Agree Bridgestone are good value but this one looked attractive so thought to seek people's thoughts on this one.

  • That a pretty good price for those Yokohama tyres.

Which tyres are fitted at the moment?
Are you happy with the wet performance and road noise?

    • +1

good price, but also depends on how many years they have been sitting on the shelf…

      • New old stock is not a desirable term when it comes to tyres.

  • Current tyres are Pirelli Verde and they have been good. I was to repeat Pirelli till I saw this Yokohama and thought to check it out.

    • If you were happy with the Pirelli's go with them

Everyones opinion of tyres is different as well as road types, how the person drives, loads they carry and 50 other variables.

  • Sure I do get it that Pirelli has been a decent one but thought no harm in hearing about Yokohama. Of course I will check the manufacturing date before buying (thanks MS Paint).

  • I have used yokohama tyres in the past(i think it was s-drive) and they were quite good. I would ideally prefer michelin but would not discard yokohama.

  • Ok thanks Apple2016

Take anything that promotes only one brand as a crock. There are dozens of brands and hundreds of different models to choose from. There is no single right answer.

You need to take into account a bunch of factors to make a choice.

What is your driving style? Fangio or grandma? What load do you carry? Full or empty car? What roads do you mostly drive? Highway or urban? Do you drive on gravel at all/often? Do you drive more carefully in the wet? Do you value grip, quiet, long lasting (you can’t have al three). Do you want the cheapest tyre or the ‘best’ tyre for your criteria or an all rounder? Do you looo after your tyres with regular pressure checks, rotation and balancing?

Tyres: quiet, grippy, long lasting? Pick any two.

    • Very sensible points you have raised. For me it is largely city driving, occasional highway, no loading, value grip most and regular in checking pressures/rotation etc.

  • I used pirelli scorpion on mine too and it's quite good, quiet and smooth, traction is good but for a boat that size you don't have much to worry anyway, mine is 19" version tho. But for sub <$200 a tyre then it's worth the try.

    • Thanks a lot.
