NordVPN: 95% Cashback for New VPN Plan Customers @ ShopBack

660

Got an email yesterday from NordVPN telling me my plan is due to expire in the next 30 days so looking around for one of those large cashbacks and noticed Shopback is doing the 95% cash back again. Seems to be a monthly thing… But says only for August so valid for the next few days.

Best plan at the moment is their standard which is $99.63 + GST = $109.59 for 2 years.

Enjoy

do people just let old account expires and use new email for new account. then 2 yrs later let the "new account" expires and use "old email" for new account?

    • 2-3 years, and 1 temporary email is okay common on.

    • What about you can use that dot thing in your email and make it look like a new email address for the vendors you are signing up on, isn't that more efficient?

      • I tried the Gmail [email protected] trick with the last NordVPN cashback offer, but it got cancelled and refunded a day or so later. So they may be onto it somehow. Used partner's email for this period instead, and will try mine again in a couple of years when this one expires.

  • Looks like it's just off the 2 year plan. The one I was previously on was for 3 years. Still not bad though considering how much I used it. Haven't had too many issues.

All good, although not good if cashback fails for any reason

I sold my soul to PIA cos they "paying" u. Considering I hardly use vpn it was worth it. Nord is pretty good, mine runs out in nov but PIA got me covered for next 2 years when I need to use it

  • I've been using Nord for a few years now. A bit concerned about a bunch of posts I've seen around, people mentioning they are very "shady" as a company. What do you all think is the most secure VPN?

    • +2

Mullvad is one! A bit on the expensive side though.

There is also iVPN but I haven’t used them yet.

      • Awesome, i'll have a look into them, thanks.

        • +3

Based on one recommendation from a random person on the internet?

          • @jv: Here's another recommendation for Mullvad from a random person on the internet.

          • @jv: Had no issue with Mullvad other then sometimes Iview wouldn't work, It's $5 USD/month and never has a sale.

          • @jv: Nothing wrong with looking into them, doesn't mean he's definitely buying their service.

Been happy with Oeck https://www.oeck.com/ Store rep is on here every now and then also

      • Thanks for the tip! :) I'll do some research on them

      • I think we're due for a deal from OECK.

    • I've been using Nord for years and haven't heard shady things, though I haven't really been looking. What have you seen about them being shady?

    • I don't know what makes you think they are shady, besides trying to monetise their product.

Literally no known data release or handover from the company ever, 100's of fast servers all over the world, cancel when you say cancel…

What exactly is it is you hope they could do more\less?

        • Every\anyone can\will get hacked. I'm not seeing anything there that makes them shady.

          • +3

@illogicalerror: They are a security company that 'didnt know' about the breach for a year.

            • -2

@Jimbuscus: It was one satellite server out of over 5000 rather than total compromise. Also they are a networking company not a security company. That's why they get external audits by an actual security company to help keep it working as it should.

Just seems like part of business on the internet to me. People\companies\governments get hacked all the time despite doing everything right. There's no preventing it if you become a target. The red team will get you eventually.

                @illogicalerror:

Also they are a networking company not a security company.

Well according to their Wikipedia page
                https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/NordVPN

NordVPN is developed by Nord Security, a company that creates cybersecurity software.

Just seems like part of business on the internet to me. People\companies\governments get hacked all the time despite doing everything right.

Firstly, networks mostly get hacked because they aren't doing everything right. Secondly it's not just part of business on the internet, these guys offer a security service, a VPN, they ask you to trust them with funneling all your data through their network.

Sure the data breach wasn't their fault,.per se, although if they had of set up their servers more securely, it wouldn't have happened. But that's not the issue most people have, it's the fact that when they found out, they didn't immediately disclose it. They didn't even think of disclosing it until someone publicly disclosed it for them some 6mths after they were made aware.

That's a pretty shytty response from a company that's supposed to protect you & your data on the internet.

But almost free is a good price..I wouldn't trust them with sensitive data, but I do use them for streaming and geo-relocating

              • @illogicalerror: FOR A YEAR.
And, what "5k servers, 1 doesn't matter" !? You seem confused.
Managing such servers security IS their business.
                That is an EPIC FAIL.

                Also, read links re: dodginess.

                • @nessism: nah… not seeing it guys

I work as a sysadmin and a network engineer and dedicate a large part of my time to these topics. What the online forums are saying is lalalalala. Hoorah for sensationalism and blame shaming though. It makes good forum fodder. Notice that it's not reported by any actual reporters? Just the odd article which repeats internet rumours and is full of disclaimers saying we don't know any of the stuff we are suggesting. I wonder why?

quotes from the internet article, the one linked above
"The hack affected a single VPN server in Finland, NordVPN explained. Its own servers were not compromised."
"The attack was made via a compromised data center account, not an account managed by NordVPN."

EPIC FAIL? lol. Suddenly Nord are responsible for all the companies security that work with all of the 5000+ data sites all over the world. Impressive sway. These guys must have more money than Facebook to pull that off.

                  • @illogicalerror: Ok, I disagree - they should have known sooner, but get your point. Yet there's a lot more than that single failure.

Nord have been Top 5 for years, and I'd planned on signing up after researching some years ago, then never did, and was about to with this deal. Thought I'd update research.

Seems they've gone the way of so many VPNs, which is a damn shame.

Likely anything I offer will be shot down, so I'll just encourage you to do your own research :) .

My cashback through cashrewards failed because of no exact reasons. Worse is that cashrewards let me know that after the 30 days cancellation period expires. Not happy about that.

    • Did you raise a ticket with them? Cashrewards are usually very good with helping out in these situations.

Could also always shoot a PM to TA on here.

    • Did it track? I just cashed out my cashback from the previous deal. No issues

    • Same thing happened to me. It tracked okay and showed an estimated approval date of about two months in the future. I noticed a month later that it had been declined. I raised a ticket and Cashrewards said that NordVPN did not give a reason.

    • +1

cashrewards told me mine was denied because I got a refund on the product after i questioned the denial even though I showed them the invoice and my account is still active and used daily. Of course they deny it after the 30 day cash back period so paid full price for 2 years.

  • +1

Still waiting on my cashback from the August 2nd NordVPN deal. Shopback says it'll be available by 18 October, which is conveniently past NordVPN's refund policy.

    • +5

Isn't that sort of the point? Every cashback deal I've seen only gives you cashback after the refund period is over

    • +1

      That's on purpose.

  • The cashrewards deal worked for me earlier in the year. I wouldnt be afraid to try this if needed, just read the instructions properly. I dont use it as it slows my browsing like every other VPN

  • I have this and NordPass. I love NordPass and would probably use them again

  • Doesn't include GST, and the GST is going to double what you're paying after cashback

    • i believe you can select another country to avoid GST?

      • Am I going to get in any legal trouble for that?

        • +8

Excise hunters are gonna kick your door in and beat your family for that $5 mate.

  • +1

Shop back denied my NordVPN cash back. Never had a problem with the cash backs

  • +3

so does it mean you pay $100 for 2 years or is the 95% cashback stacking on the deal making it $5?

  • If you are only paying 5% for something, where do you think Nord is getting their revenue from?
Is your data valuable? Does Nord have access to literally all your data?

    • If you buy the complete package you get 1tb cloud storage. If you only use the cloud storage and use cryptomator to upload everything encrypted then they get nothing from you, except for your throwaway email and one-time use card from Revolut

      • Nevermind, seems like NordVPN's "Complete" and "Plus" deals aren't covered for extra cashback because these are considered NordPass and NordLocker products apparently

      • I'm talking about seeing all your internet traffic

  • SORRY not related to NORD VPN but has anyone found anything better FREE vpn then PROTON; in terms of multiple i.p. addresses, no traffic limits and no tracking? Thank you kindly

    • +1

Pray for another Windscribe free 50GB deal

  • Does anyone know if their servers for India are virtual or dedicated? TIA

    • There are no servers in India. It was removed few months back (end of June) after government issues notice to maintain logs.

  • +1

All I want to do is subscribe to YouTube Premium, Netflix, Disney etc. once in a while using VPN to benefit from lower subscription cost from other countries.

Is there any better option than this which is free or even cheaper?

    • +1

      PIA @ 115% cashback

  • +1

warning… all indian servers have been removed. same as surfshark and express.

    • Any recommendations on a VPN that supports them?

    • What are people using Indian servers for?

      • Usually for Indian restaurants

  • Can I make a second shop back claim for nordvpn under my shopback ACC using a new email for the Nord acc? Or will shopback decline knowing I've already claimed a previous

  • I tried nord but it kept blocking all the warez sites I like to visit so i got a refund. I am using cyber ghost now and don't have the same problem.

  • Do i just choose the standard 2Yr+3mths free plan
    & choose a Tax country 0%VAT?
It comes to 83.43 with 62% discount applied. Is this right

  • Any idea why I just got charged $138.09?

Payment screen said $99.63 as I said USA and no tax applied but been charged more.

  • USD -> AUD?

    • Payment screen says you will be charged Aud $99.63

Shopback confirmation states tracking at A$127.42

  • Not sure why Nord or Surfshark doesn't work when it come to Netflix, Google one or YT premium.
Is it because they use virtual servers for India & Turkey?
