Travel Requirements to Japan in October

I have booked a flight to Japan in October, but due to the rumour that Japan will ease its requirements for tourists, I don't need to have a guided tour, as long as the visit was arranged through a travel agency.

I would like to know if the agency needs to be in Japan/Japanese agent or can it be an agent from Australia?

If the agent is in Japan, please recommend me some.

Another option is for me to cancel the flight, but I do not know if I will get a refund or a credit. This is booked through Jetstar.

On the basis "rumour that Japan will ease its requirements for tourists" you have already booked your flight?
Hope you have a good refund clause just in case you cannot travel independently

  • Better get married to a Japanese citizen and apply for a visa

Nothing will change. Hope you are ready for that credit……is what I'd would say until I read Jetstar RIP

  • We booked refundable tickets to Japan for late September back in October of 2021. We have now booked a backup local holiday and will be cancelling all our Japan plans in a week or so time as there is next to no chance that borders will open up within 4 weeks for anything other than the tour group option which we have no interest in. Good luck but I rate your chances as <5% - I'd love to be wrong.

  • I've been researching going to Japan in December over the last few days and despite us wanting to do a guided tour, it's likely still not worth our movements being completed restricted within the country outside of the tour itself.

  • The only thing that is changing is the testing before arrival will be scrapped for vaccinated tourists. not sure when though.

  • Apparently group booking not required, and can travel undependently - but must be made through travel agent

  • Firstly, check your own consulate booking for visa asap. Thats starting to get overwhelmed and its not easy to get a visa slot (yes you need a visa).

Next you need to find a travel agency that can sign off on your itinerary. They also need to be able to issue you ERFS document which you'll need for your visa. It won't be free btw im seeing 30k yen a pop right now.

Most people seem to be using JGA. Check out japantravel subreddit.
