https://www.amazon.com.au/PHILIPS-325E8-31-5IN-FREESYNC-Moni…

I am after a larger monitor but I don't need a 21:9.
Inspired by this deal, I found this 16:9, yes it's smaller than 34 inch but it's still 32 inch 1440p and 25.8%, $90 cheaper!
So I just bought one from Centrecom. For $259, there isn't much to complain.

Mwave

How would 75hz for gaming though? I had a Dell with 60hz and it was so bad when playing csgo.

    • +7

Not bad, not great. It's not a gaming monitor.

    • +1

The improvement from 60 to 75 is bigger than 75 to 144 imo but still not the best for gaming.

      • +10

How to tell somebody isn't a gamer ™

      • +7

        high resolution like 120 KHz

Are you trying to show you have no idea?

A 60hz monitor is not good for FPS games. 75hz won't be either.

        • ikr.

for a moment there i thought it was non_lhr posting that advice, its so bad

  • Would this be very bright.
Is the contrast ratio very good?

    • No and no unfortunately. But 250 nits brightness is fine and the contrast of IPS panels isn't great, it's their colours (not sure about the colours on this one) and viewing angles that are good

  • +8

Why is this not recommended for business?

  • -8

    32" @ 1440p?
Might as well just stick with 640x480.

    • +15

Fun fact: 1440 at 32 inches is same pixel density as 1080 at 24 inches.

    • not sure if you're just trolling but i have a 32" 1440p and its perfectly fine

  • +3

It is a good deal for some people, but for this screen size I think you really should go for 4k.

  • +3

Philips monitor and TV now belongs to a Chinese company. Basically same company that makes AOC monitors.

    • -2

Not true on the TV design side which is still done in Amsterdam. Don't know how many times this needs to be repeated.
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TP_Vision

      • +1

It has to be repeated because Phillips decided to make some quick bucks and sell off their name in small chunks to all sorts of shady and shonky companies then they wonder why people think their TV are crap.

        • In my experience they're not crap and they use LG OLED panels.
TP Vision oversees the physical design of products manufactured by TPV. There's a difference and a reason why Philips' stand designs remain so consistent for example.

    • +1

AOC is Taiwanese company while TP Vision that owns Philips Monitors business is Chinese (Hong Kong based).

        • +5

Nope. Taiwan is a separate country with democratic govt that has self ruled for 75 years with their own parliament, president and army. If that's not a different country than I'm not sure what is.

          • +3

@dealhunter52: That's correct, the People's Republic of China (est. in 1949) has never ruled the Republic of China (Taiwan) even just for one day. They are totally separate regimes.

  • +1

I use this for work, Dota and CS, it's been a great monitor. If you play more demanding games than this, then probably don't buy it.

  • +1

This has an audio output, if I use the monitor with a Chromecast I suppose I can plug in a speaker to the audio out and get sound? Thanks

    • +1

Yes, it should be fine. I connected my chromecast to a similar monitor with an audio ouput and the monitor can output sound to an external speaker.

  • Cracking price.

Reviews says VA, phillips au says “ips technology”?

    • I noticed that too. Maybe a design change.

      • I think there may have been an inaccuracy from Philips when this first launched as the prior model, the 326E8 was VA.

The official spec sheet states IPS.

  • +1

How can this thing not have a vesa mount
    Thanks for the post op.

    • @deadlift I know!?! It even has 4 holes in the back but manual confirms no VESA.

      • Why you gotta make me look? Now to buy or not to buy!
Could ask MWave to confirm I guess.

        • Huh?!? What are those holes for then!?

    • Wait… that's a deal breaker!

  • +1

Great price! But if I recall correctly when researching this monitor, the pole the stand rests upon isn't removable without disassembling the monitor case. If it's not a VESA mount that would make sense I guess. But I can't imagine having a monitor this big and not mounting it. .

    • +1

I have 2 on my desk and a 3rd one on the way. Works for me

      • Did you mount? I could not find that this model is VESA supported?

        • No i read somewhere they did not design the back of the monitor correctly and a customer left a review where they had to alter the vesa mount as the cables could reach the connector

  • +3

I am trying to think why these would be a bad deal for an office, media consumption and light gaming screen.

IPS, QHD, 3 year warranty, made by AOC, cracker price.

All that I can think of is the 250nits brightness.

    Why wouldn’t you buy this?

    • +1

Because you bought a 29" ultrawide for June 30 😢

    • Why wouldn’t you buy this?

best I can do is $50 :D may be $60

  • I'm looking for a monitor in this price range with similar specs but with a vesa mount. Can anyone give me some pointers?

Dell 32" curved is $239 on eBay, it's a VA panel though.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/393635617411

    Use DELLSAV

    • That one is 1080p only.

      • Oh bugger, I missed that. I ordered one last week, it's for my folks though, they wouldn't know the difference between 1080 and 1440.
The Philips is a bargain then. I'm never good at timing these!

  • Worth $90 more for the 34" ultrawide? That one has slightly more resolution and area. I think these 16:9 ones might be "too tall".

    • Depends what you plan on using it for.
For some movies and general web browsing, the 32 is probably a good choice.
For productivity (multiple windows open side by side), sharpness (the 34 ultrawide is the same height as a 27 inch 1440p display), and mounting practicality, the 34 is the better pick in my opinion.
Have been using a Dell 34 ultrawide for many years and it’s been an excellent work display.

      • Gaming and productivity. No mounting or movies. This or 34" for $90 more?

        • I’d go the 34 but depends on your budget and GPU. It will take a pretty powerful GPU to drive the ultrawide monitor for gaming at that res. I’ve got a 6600xt which does okay, a 3060 or higher would be required as a minimum for newer games to get close to 60fps.

          Good luck deciding!

  • Interesting comparing it to the AOC Q32V3S/WS

    AOC: 31.5" WQHD IPS 75Hz 5ms Monitor
    NTSC 89% (CIE1976) / SRGB 101% (CIE1931)
    8- bit
    Display Colors: 16.7 Million

Can't find much info on this Philips except it has "Colour Depth: 1.07B (10-Bit)"

Wonder which one has a better colour gamut?

  • all the places out of stock - any place still selling to WA?

    • +1

pre order from centre com, stock ETA tomorrow.

      • Is it safe to do that? It may not be in stock.

      • Centrecom ETA now changed to 8th September

        • Meh instinct mow at scorptech

    • Good news! it's also $259 sold by Amazon AU now, only 2 left!

  • +1

Got mine delivered this morning from centrecom, bought off eta not in stock

    • +1

mine arrived from centrecom last night also.

      • How is the monitor?

        • still in the box sorry!
Hopefully get to set it up during the week though

    • Report please!

  • +1

Bought 2, one from PCByte and another from Catch, both arrived yesterday.

The monitor is very bright and has LowBlue mode, so far they are fantastic for my need (browsing, coding, shell, movie etc.)

    • I was wondering about the brightness since it is specified as only 250cd/m².

Could you give slightly more info on the monitor please. I may pull the trigger and get one.

      Any negative features?

      Thanks in advance.

  • 4k movies won't look good on this I presume.
