I've never seen this half price I will be stocking up .

    • +2

It has half price before couple years ago. I bought them.

When they say NZ apricot's does it mean apricot's grown in NZ or produce that could've been shipped there and can then be claimed to be NZ produce?

    • -1

Also, first ingredient is sugar but I guess at this price point you won't find 100% fruit. Still, not sure how this has 50% NZ apricots when sugar is the first ingredient.

      • +4

Even Beerenberg at triple the price, only contains 51% apricots in their jam. I don't think you will find a jam with even 60%. Usually around 40-50 mark.

        • yes you are right 50% is a decent amount of fruit in jam. But i think steve is trying to say its not possible for there to be 50% fruit in this jam if sugar is listed first (ingredients are typically listed with the highest quantity ingredient first and subsequent ones decreasing in amount included).

If you look at the same brand and other varieties e.g. strawberry they write (50%) next to it.

makes it seem like only 50% of the apricots in this jam are from NZ and 50% from an unknown source

Either way its a good price in these inflationary times

@Chocobros: Someone is playing silly buggers with nutritional labels. They don't need to declare country of origin in ingredients list; but once you do it has to be true.

In Woolies NZ, this product nutritional ingredients are: New Zealand apricots 48%, sugar, pectin, citric acid. It has 54g sugar/100g. They have lowered sugar content to market a premium "fruit" product.

Same product in Aus, sugar is first, then New Zealand apricots, pectin, citric acid. It has 65g sugar/100g. It's now marketed as an everyday basic item with more cheap sugar.

It's clearly listed as only contains NZ apricots.

Quality jam is always 50% fruit 50% sugar e.g. bonne maman

      • If they want 100 percent fruit, the solution is to buy the fruit itself, not the jam.

Will definitely be NZ grown fruit… much cheaper to get fruit from Central Otago to Canterbury, than it is to import it from overseas!

    • Jam is usually made from third-rate fruit - first-rate gets exported and second-rate eaten domestically (in Aus and NZ anyway). Given how prolific fruit trees can be in a good year, I expect these are 100% NZ apricots. I highly doubt it would be profitable to import fruit just to make preserves from it - jam was invented as a way of making the most of what would otherwise go to waste.

  • Looks like only this flavour is half price. Must be getting rid of it

Pretty sure I bought the 3 berry one at 1/2 price a couple of weeks ago

  • Thanks so much, our fav flavour! 50% fruit is good at this price point. Thanks OP.

  • Is there a difference between Jam and Jelly… lol

    • +2

I can't Jelly my you know what in your you know what.

    • +1

Jelly is an American term - basically it is jam that has been strained so there are no pits or skins etc in it. It is just very smooth jam. Goes really well with peanut butter ie: pb&j

  • Geraldine represent!

  • where are the other 50% of apricots grown?

  • +1

Good deal. This is the best mass-produced jam available at Colesworths.

FYI - if you like Barker's stuff, Woolies also have 2 of the flavours of sauces (ie ice-cream toppings) for $2 - that's less than half price:
    lemon and passionfruit - https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/178384/bar…
*This is fantastic - bought it last week for $2.80 and am already halfway through the bottle - it would also be great added to plain yoghurt, or on top of waffles or pancakes. At this price I'm going to stock up on it
    hazelnut chocolate - https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/178309/bar…
*I haven't tried this one yet, but at this price I guess I'll be trying it

    • Interesting. I'll give it a try.

    • Love the jam, did not know these sauces existed! I'm in.

  • Best jam in the world
