Being Prepared for The 2023 AFL Season

My wifes family are all Crows supporters and I'm a Port Power supporter, but I'm not really invested in the sport (like, never even watched a game from start to finish in 30 years)

The showdown was this weekend, so I saw the game with the family-in-law and was able to go home gloating that my team was the best. Unfortuantely they were also (jokingly) saying I wasn't a true supporter because I didn't know any of the names of the players on the team, let alone any of their history (I didn't even realise they won the premiereship in 2004!). Don't worry, it's all in love that we pick on each other.

I want to flip the script on them next year and come prepared as a true Port supporter. What can I do over the next few months to secretly study up on the team, the game and the players?
The next time we get together to watch the game, I want to be able to tell them all the specified stats of players or even the names of the players. Basically going to be a big long running 'jokes on them' kind of scenario.

Basically going to be a big long running 'jokes on them' kind of scenario.

Except it won't be, coz they've seen how you are now. If anything it would look pretty desperate

Why not watch/support the aflw Port Adelaide team?
First season is about to begin so it's perfect timing

Bleat on about being "the real Magpies", that Port is the most successful club in Australia and that Russell Ebert is the greatest player to ever play the game.

  • I have a simple test for people I meet to see if they know their team or not. That's to name five current players from their team.

      Wow that easy?

Some useful phrases/things for you to learn about:

    • sack Hinkley
    • F Dixon/Marshall/Bonner/ whoever played badly last week (not Marshall so much this year)
    • don't mention 2007
    • Kane who?
    • Alberton/Footy Park
    • Magpies/Prison bars/1870

For the record, I think they will respect you a lot more for becoming more of a genuine fan of the team as opposed to just spouting off names/stats to try and feel superior.

Do you have friends who are Port supporters? Maybe you should support the Crows to have something in common with your wife and family. Celebrating wins with other supporters is far more enjoyable than gloating to opposing supporters. I know this is an insult of the highest degree, but it doesn't seem like you're a supporter in the first place; a true Port Adelaide supporter would never marry an Adelaide supporter!

Crow supporters are dreadful people, so the first thing a true Port supporter must learn is how to dispose of the body.

Have you tried the club website?

  • I would remind them of the time Jake Lever quit the Crows and took all of his merchandise (match day uniform, hats) to the local
    rubbish TIP.

That will keep em quiet for a bit.

next year and come prepared as a true Port supporter. What can I do over the next few months

    • remove your teeth
    • buy some moccasins
    • grow a mohawk
    • get a tattoo of Kane Cornes

and to take it to next level.

      -purchase clapped out commodore
      -spend some time in jail
      -drink cheap boubon cans
-cry about not being able to wear the prison bar guernsey

    • remove your teeth

But then how to distinguish from a Collingwood supporter?
