How Many Connetix Tiles Should We Get with Ball Run?

We recently got Picasso Tiles for my 3 year old and he loves them, so I am considering suggesting Connetix Tiles with Ball Run pack as a Christmas present for him when grandma asks what he wants. For anyone who has them, how many original tiles/ball run tiles would you consider adequate to get some good runs going? We bought the 100 pack of Picasso Tiles which sounded like a lot but once you start building it doesn't feel like it! Budget would be around the $300 mark, so that is a limitation, so I guess I am asking what the tile pack/ball run pack ratio should be.

Also, do they ever go on sale at all? We have got until December, so should I be on the look out for it to go on sale anywhere?

Thanks.

Last year Connetix Tiles and their stockists had sale in September so you might want to keep an eye on their social media post next month.

We have their ball run pack then added Steam Studio's ball run pack from Amazon and it's more than enough for my 5yo.

Just be mindful that it is quite easy to break the connectix ramps when trying to remove them from the tiles. Can never have enough tiles tbh.

OP, if you're committed to the Connetix 'ecosystem' then disregard this, but we bought a marble run set like this one a few years ago and it's been excellent fun. Sturdy and large enough to build quite extensive runs, and cheap enough to extend when you want to. At this price you could build a pretty massive marble run with $300. Ours came with a battery-operated conveyer belt and steel marbles so you can sit back and watch it do its thing once built. Very fun.

    • Thanks for the suggestion! I ask about Connetix as they are so highly rated, but we're not committed yet so definitely happy to explore other options.

The marble run add on is good too.

I bought a set of these as a birthday present recently that seemed like reasonable value - I think they were $58 at the time

They are compatible with picassotiles. Makes for good gift as even if they already have them, you can always use more.

I have connetix and can also recommend MNTL or the premium ones from steamstudio (from amazon and you must choose the premium not regular ones). Have all 3 brands and apart from the star/diamond design in the centre, quality of tiles and magnets are 99.99999% similar. 100% compatible with one another.
The regular tiles are fantastic and well loved in the house and played with almost everyday. You can probably find children toys stockists carrying mntl who have 10% off for signing up for their newsletter or something.

We had the ballrun too but i sold it because my 2.5 year old couldnt do it independently haha. It is actually quite hard to click it the ball run tubes into the tiles!

We have over 350 tiles and its enough for just her to independently play but when we join her to make some cooler creations i dont feel like we have enough. Definitely get the big base pieces as they help with big builds, i think they are like 16 squares worth of base. And also the hexagon ones are well loved.
