Fluctuating Prices When Trying to Claim Price Protection Insurance

Hi all,

I'm trying to get through a claim with Latitude for a price protection claim for a laptop, however the process is slow and tedious. I submitted proof of the price drop but they have asked for more info. Now looking at the website the price has changed to a different price to what I'm trying to claim (over $1k vs $999)

Will they understand that I'm just trying to claim whatever price it has dropped to or will they keep insisting for more proof of the price I saw previously that's attached to my claim?

I honestly don't have the energy to call them and there's no email or written way of reaching them, hence I'm here as I know a fair few are familiar with the process, whereas this is my second ever claim.

Did you not take a screenshot of the lower price? In the past I've submitted screenshots as proof of the lower price and they've accepted.

Same. If you have the proof they have always accepted without any further question.

You can always tell them you didn't take a photo of the proof and thag you are happy to amend the claim to the current price and just get paid the the current difference. If you see the price drop again in the future, you can claim again and they will pay out the difference between the previously claimed price and the price you submit later. Always take a photo or a screenshot when you notice a price drop

      This.
If you don't have evidence of the reduced price, how can they validate? If you don't have the info, just wait to the next price drop - you have a year since purchase anyway

    • I did submit a screen shot, that's why I'm confused about submitting another, because it seems they're not happy with the first

      • Oh didn't see that you already submitted a ss, I normally just take a phone screenshot showing at least the website/shop banner + price. Ive never had them ask to submit a 2nd as. Was your ss missing the shop banner?

  • The PDS does not mention anything about claiming more than once for the same item. Obviously the insurer will only have the information you provided to them, i.e. the price you paid and the dropped price which you submitted proof for. It's not their responsibility to trawl the internet to find the price of the item at every retailer at every point in time. As there's no mention about claiming more than once, it's seems possible that you can simply submit another claim later on for further price drops, noting that Latitude will "pay up to $1,000 per item up to a maximum of $5,000 for all items in any 12 month period.".

    • That isn't what OP is asking.

OP, take a screenshot. Always screenshot.

      • It is though… OP stated they "submitted proof of the price drop". However, now the price has dropped again ("the price has changed to a different price to what I'm trying to claim (over $1k vs $999)"). They are wanting to claim at the new lower price ("Will they understand that I'm just trying to claim whatever price it has dropped to"). As the OP has already submitted a claim, I was stating that to claim the additional difference (which from the PDS they appear to be able to), they will need to submit a new claim.

        • The price actually went up, not down. Claim was for $999 and they asked for proof a second time but website now shows it for over 1k

          • @blueyez: You mention you can't email or written way to contact them. So how are they expecting you to submit further proof? From past instances, I recall a screenshot of the website + price + time & date was sufficient. Perhaps showing this as a screen recording would be most useful.

            • @CaptainHoltisDad: They just have a page to upload the screenshot into, attached to the claim, there is no free textbox. I'll see if I can do a screen recording

You have to take a screenshot when you do the claim, they take up to 2 weeks to respond and if they ask for proof then most likely the item won't be the price you are claiming/sold out. If it's a dollar difference, for now just submit that price and see what happens. I've let a few claims just die because I forgot to ss / forgot where I saw the price from

    • Yeah I have submitted one screenshot already, but when I checked the website recently the price is now higher, so it will not match my initial claim

      • Yeh when that happens I'll just let it go and then wait for the next price drop lol but let us know how you go!

        • Timer is on… has already been over 12 months lol, trying to get in before I forget or hit 24 months

          • @blueyez: What is this credit card you have with 12 moths price protection?

            • +1

@PabloVicioso: Coles no annual fee mastercard, but they no longer offer the insurance to new customers

      • I just had a claim approved, it had been a while since I did it (lazy). Did you make sure there is the date showing on your screenshot?

        • I'll need to double check, pretty sure I took a shot of the whole screen

  • Well they lack in communication, but they approved the difference between the original price and the higher price, so I'm happy with that as it was over $500!
