Brand New Faulty PS5

So I finally managed to buy a BNIB PS5 from BigW last week, set it all up, 10 minutes into playing the first game it crashes – screen completely freezes, ps5 controller doesn't respond at all. Few seconds later a very loud buzzing noise comes out the speakers and only way to remedy is to unplug power cable and reboot, where it goes through rebuilding db, etc.

It happens with every game and every 10-20 minutes, so basically unusable.

I've done a complete reset of ps5 and this time didn't copy and data across from PS4, and only installed 1 games – yet 10 minutes in to game and it happened again, and is still happening.

Sounds like must be a hardware fault but thought I'd post here Incase anyone has any other thoughts

Additionally, thinking about return/repair – given it's literally 1 week old, I don't really want to go via Sony as I'll end up with a second hand console.. but I'm guessing going via retailer I'll just have to demand refund and go back into the waiting game for more stock?

If I do choose to go via Sony – does anyone know the rough turnaround time atm?

    Bring back to bigw.
    If they dont have new stock then take refund.
    In the meantime go outside exercise. Without ps5 life is still wonderful trust me.

      Try to get bigw to replace it? Say you're happy to wait for the stock?

    It's BigW and not some dodgey facebook or gumtree seller - you don't have to demand a refund. Just need to tell them the problem and ask for one.

    That happened to me with a release day console from Amazon. Earlier this year it updated. Then shit itself. Couldn't get in hold of Sony. Contacted Amazon and they tried fobbing me off to Sony also. I reminded them of our rights. They refunded when I sent it back. Purchased a xsx right away

    I'd get a repair from Sony and then sell it for more money than you paid. Why would you waste that opportunity with a refund.

    Or you know…just keep it.

    That's rough, mate. Hope you can get it rectified. I have been plugging a few hours into Cult of the Lamb, it's so freaking good! Made by an Aussie studio, too, so the sound theme features some Australian bird calls :)
