  • How do these shops post the meat? Is it delivered by refrigerated truck at any time of day? Would be keen to buy bulk, but have to freeze it for 3-6 months, and I'd want to ensure the 'cold chain' was strictly never broken.

    • +4

Refrigerated truck. Box is packed with ice blocks(shit quality) and wool instillation. Meat is vacuum packed. I’ve frozen for 8 months and defrosted and it’s been great.

    • +6

Also at most supermarkets the "cold chain" is also broken. I've often seen boxes of frozen stuff out of the freezer, defrosting, waiting to be loaded into the display freezers. You'd be surprised how much goes on without the consumer being aware haha

I order from them all the time. Order the 2-4-1 Scotch and Sirloin and both are nice. The sirloin is best cooked as a whole piece in the oven or slowing cooking in BBQ. The scotch in much nicer. Out of a 1.5kg piece I get 6 nice slices.

Hi all, you may be able to save more and get $20 off on your first order using the referral button/link.

Alternatively you can try the 10% off coupon below, but I haven't tried it yet:
    VICSVIP10

    • Thanks for mentioning this. It was in my original post but removed.

VICSVIP10 is the code you get after signing up for the newsletter. Can only be used once per account so may wish to consider for future orders since referral only works for the first order.

      • Confirmed,big bargain here folks.

        • Referral link not working - see thread below,

    • refcode worked for me after contacting them via chat + spending over $125.

  • Just signed up via the OzB referral system, ordred $145 worth of stuff, and got the message that the discount code (referral code) is not valid for the items in your basket. Is it not valid on items already on special?

    • +1

      yep, got the same

    • Same. Starts with R?

      • Yes, same here. "Discount code is invalid".

Also had $145 in my basket but dropped it because of this.

        • +1

Did a trial and error - looks like a minimum spend requirement of $175 to qualify for referral code.

  • Dang I’m so poor I haven’t had a steak in ages. Can hardly afford meat at all

    • Why?
The price of chicken and mince has hardly gone up.

  • Tempted.. Love steak!
Does the meat quality degrade much if I freeze straight away?

I've been getting rump or skirt steak..but scotch is best in my opinion.

    • +1

Not at all, freeze the steaks individually (for quicker, more even thawing) and they last months & months.

  • not for WA…

Anyone comment about them compared to Costco steaks?

    • When Costco scotch fillet was 36.99 precovid, Costco everyday on quality and price. My local is now 46.99, good quality, yes, but you pay for it. VIC is comparable and the right price

      • Few people commenting here that their orders had a high percentage of fat. At least with Costco you can examine and pick yourself.

        • not comparable in my opinion — Costco is trimmed and cut, this is effectively the raw product for you to trim/cut yourself.

    Thanks OP, just ordered

  • Is there a shop like this in NSW that anyone would recommend?

    • Vic's meat

      • +1

LOL… I thought VIC was for Victoria

  • +2

I'll share my experience ordering yakiniku waygu from this mob. There weight the marinate part of what you pay for. That may be debatable…

However, they also weight the packaging as part of what you pay for. I bought a 300g worth for about $50… and the packagin was about 15% of what weight.

    • i dont think that's legal - the marinate will be included in the weight but the packaging???

  • Ordered, let's see what's all the fuss about this Vic's meat

  • -1

    halal?

  • +2

I have purchased from these guys in the past without an issue. The quality of the meat is typically pretty good.

However, my last order had a layer of fat was approximately six centimetres at parts and constituted what looked to be 30-40% of weight. Though they did apologise and send a 10% discount code, it was exactly the same as the welcome deal.

    • Same, quality has gone a bit downhill recently (online orders at least). Fat was also about 30-40% of may last order. Called up, got a 10% future discount, won't be using.

Mentioned it to another quality butcher, didn't mention Vic's, and they just said "was it Vic's?" and laughed. Apparently a lot of their butchers left to other places.

  • Is this VIC only? I can't see anything about interstate delivery. Wish there were good meat stores like this in QLD.

    • +1

They deliver interstate I purchase stuff and get delivered to Bris all the time. If your on the Northside of Bris than Meat at Billy’s is definitely on par with these guys.

      • Great thanks! I live in gold coast and haven't found anywhere with good variety that also sell affordable wagyu and yakiniku/KBBQ cuts, do Meat at Billy's deliver?

        • They do but only within Brisbane, not to GC by the looks of it.

      • +1

That's a solid recommendation…Billy's is a treat for us, but when we do splurge, it's incredible. I can see how they get all of the restaurant trade (Agnes for one) given the amazing quality. I've toyed with ordering direct from a local producer but am yet to take the plunge.

  • +1

Thank you OP. I gave it a go.

  • Gave it a go, 2x 1.5kg sirloins, 2x 1.5kg scotch fillets & 2kg "premium" mince for $216 delivered (10% off welcome code was better than a referral discount) to Brisbane. Seems like a decent deal, as we've been avoiding steak for the last few months. It can't be worse than Aldi…

  • Had a shitty experience
Ordered total of 4 meats to be delivered yesterday
Waited whole day. Didnt turn up. Tracking said that the driver left depot at 530am, and delivery failed at 535am
Emailed to find out what happened. No response except for automated reply
Called them at 830am today. Customer service didnt know what was going on. Said that they will investigate and will call back/email back
    Didnt hear anything back
Called them again during lunch. A different person took on the case. Customer service found out that the depot lost my meat

    • shit happens..

  • +1

Managed to get 5 steaks out of each of the Scotch packets without too much waste. Look forward to a similar deal cut into steaks

  • +1

I ordered. Really good for me. Only 4 steaks per block due to the shape but happy overall.
