  • I always wonder how sturdy this type of “instant up” tents are when it gets windy.

    • +3

I've had the earlier version of this tent (without inbuilt lights) in 95km/hr gusts and driving rain. Get some good pegs and use all the guy lines and it stays upright and dry. The tent does flex and move a bit when it's windy, but no more than other tents.

  • 3000mm waterproof rating? Does it mean it's watertight if submerged under 3m of water??

    • Not quite, but it would have been nice. It really means how much water can sit on top of the fabric before it starts to leak, so in this case, you can have a static 3m column of water sitting on top of the tent before water would start coming in. In practice, it doesn’t really mean anything apart from it’s fine with a bit of showers and rain but don’t try this in a torrential downpour (or anywhere in eastern Australia in the near future).

    • Waterproof ratings are measured in millimetres (mm) and usually fall anywhere from 800mm to 10,000 mm. These figures indicate the amount of water pressure a fabric can withstand. That means a tent with a 2,000mm rating will endure a 2,000mm or two metre column of water bearing down on it before it starts to leak.
