At this point, not much is known about the difference beside the box-art legendary.

Different professors. Different uniform colours. The legendaries matter a bit normal than normal as it seems they are and earlier game thing maybe since you use them.

My past few pre-orders has also arrived after Day 1, so if you want the game on the first day I suggest you purchase in-store.
Good pricing but I don't think it's worth changing my Amazon dual pack order to save 30c. Amazon are more likely to deliver on time.
Note the dual pack only comes with a single dual steelbook (which is different from the invidual ones)
So if you're a collector, you'll have to purchase both invidual + the dual pack for all the steelbooks…

Correct. The steelbook is a special preorder only.
Sword and shield was released in 2019 for about AUD60. Steelbook case alone (no game) are selling for $40; opened copies are close to RRP; up to about $240ish for new, unopened, professionally valued copies. Note: a huge volume of Pokémon games get sold, lots of copies and few buyers. You do it for fun.

Pokémon games hold value but don't gain. Similar to Mario or Zelda game. There will be millions of steelbook preorders for this game. There will be resellers that buy 100 preorder copies to store pristine and flip in 2 years time. If a collector wants a copy in 5/10 years time, it will be readily available, maybe even off the shelf.
This is a good way to get the cheapest price while still supporting a small business (admittedly, with a cut going to eBay) rather than buying from Amazon which was my original plan.

You know what you are going to get with a Pokemon game, one of the safest preorders you can do
Not with a few recent ones, but you can’t reason with fans, these communities have become very tribalism and close minded.. I use to make defensive comments for some tech companies but am no longer the sheep for anything much these days

Tempted to order on ebay but scared of the delay on delivery, 18 nov is a Friday and likely you'll be getting the game on Monday if you're ordering online.
I'll stick with JBHIFI, 5 extra dollars pick up myself and play on the day sounds reasonable.

Nintendo AU/NZ only has one dual pack SKU for Violet & Scarlet and, yes, it includes the gold SteelBook.
