Someone was saying in another laser distance measuring post that this one isn't accurate and they wanted to return it. +/- 5mm does seem like a bit compared to other devices.

  • +1

Not very satisfied with the accuracy

    • What were you measuring? How much was it out by?

    • but isn't that +/- 5mm at 130 feet (39.6 metres) or did I misunderstand that ?

      • +1

My laser measure is out by less than 1mm at that range - then again it was a bit more than $50

        • Yeah, most I've looked at after seeing this device are around 2-3mm. I don't really need one to be super accurate as I don't really measure stuff like a builder. The other functions could be ok too. I don't need a stud finder as I have a good one already.

      • How does this one compare to the CAT? The claimed accuracy is higher but it doesnt have the stud finder feature and doesn't come with a tripod.

Not supposed to be used in the bathroom

Can I attach this laser beam to my shark?

    • Wondering if it can be used for soccer games or not.

    • -1

The shark will be able to shoot lasers as well as look for unsuspecting studs.

  • +8

If you're looking for me, I'm here.

    • Looking for studs, not the space between them.

  • Can I price match? I don’t have Costco membership

    • +2

Good luck. Most stores won't price match as Costco requires a subscription

    • Some would price match after factoring in membership fee ($60).

Makes more sense on high value items with large discounts, such as higher end TVs, white goods, etc.

  • +6

I regret buying this. Terrible accuracy.

CATs and lasers. Name a more iconic duo

  • +2

    Looks like a rebranded https://a.co/d/3DangSJ
Except you get a tripod instead of a pouch?

  • Good deal! 👍 Would get one if I had the membership.

  • Looks like a good deal, it was on sale in April/May for $71.99.

Costco in the US is selling it for US$79.99.

  • +1

If stud finding is what you're after, skip this and buy a magnet. Half the price, and 100% accuracy.

    • +1

a magnet will find a nail or metal on the stud, not the stud itself.

      • I've never used a stud detector that I haven't wanted to throw across the room at some point.
Magnet is the quickest and most accurate way to locate most studs, and will get you through any real DIY task (shelves, light cutout, hooks). Yes it doesn't detect the stud itself, though 9 times out of 10 there's fixings in each stud.

  • Having Bunnings gone after this with a similar product match?

  • Measuring accuracy ( + / - 5 mm or + / - 3/16")

It looks like an interesting product, but I can see why they market it for "home" use. No builder is going to use a device with those tolerances.

    • No builder is going to use a device with those tolerances.

You'd be surprised at what corners some builders will cut.. Maybe they've just gone cheap on the tools

      • Pfft. Next you'll tell me there are builders on OzBargain!!!

        :-)

Methinks maybe Costco should proofread their ad specs.

    I'm fairly sure it's not 1MW (MegaWatt), but 1mW (milliWatt), otherwise that'd be a blooooody big battery/laser!
And maybe it's 620-670nm (nanometre) i.e. the laser wavelength

    /internet pedantry

I have one and regret buying it. It "does" a lot, but nothing well. Ask yourself what you really need this for, then go buy that specific tool. Don't waste your time and money on this.

  • Bought one to give it a go, it works fine. When measuring distance, the reading is from the bottom of the unit to the target, so it includes the height of the unit. There's a setting to measure from the top of the unit to the target. People finding it inaccurate may be thinking that it measures from the front.

Other functions are working as expected. Surprised it's not mentioned in the specs, it has rechargeable lithium battery and USB-C charging port, cable included.

$40 is fantastic value, especially when Costco has a very generous return policy, in case you change your mind.

  • Has anyone used it for the Laser level?
I already have a Zircon Studfinder which doesn't work too well. I am looking into it mainly for the laser distance and level. should I buy it?
