Sweet. What’s the upgrade price for extremescreen?

    • +5

$4 per ticket. Saw Nope on Saturday with this promo and used it on xtremescreen

    • just booked now

      $5 now - inflationnnnnn !!!

(for a $10.99 groupon ticket for Xtremescenema in Hoyts Blacktown 2nd Sep show)

  • Is Top Gun still showing?

    • Yea just watched it the other day. It's not in Xtreme anymore though

  • I saw top gun in d Box was awesome!!

What justification do Hoyts give to charge an online booking fee, but is free to book in person? I thought the whole reason of an automated online system was to reduce costs and therefore not needing to pay for staff time to personally book it for you?

      • +3

That's the worst rebuttal I've ever seen. It's not even a logical fallacy as far as I'm aware.

    • +8

Because some time ago an IT company came along and said we'll build your checkout system for free, but only if you pass on 4$ per ticket to us..

      • +3

Thanks for that, that's a very logical explanation of how it started. But what public justification do they give for continuing this dinosaur policy? (As I'm sure they won't say: "to screw consumers out of more money" publicly).

      • +1

        Source? Never heard of this

        • +1

It’s plausible, but more likely internal.

CEO “You want $4m to build a booking system??? We will sell most of those tickets regardless. Bottom line - where is the ROI??”
Marketing and IT look at each other “Just give us a minute”

      • +1

It may have changed but Hoyts uses an off the shelf cinema POS (Vista) that's pretty widely used. Maybe they do take a cut of the ticket/booking fee, but I doubt it. Even if it was so, it wouldn't be the full $1.50 / $3.00 booking fee.

What's more likely? It was a new source of income when they introduced online bookings, and they don't want it to end. Also keep in mind, when you book online, they're losing a chance to upsell in-person their candy bar items, which is the main way they make money (tickets barely make them any money as the movie studios take a huge cut in the opening weeks)

  • Err, how about so they can gouge their customers at every opportunity?

"If redeemed at HOYTS.com.au… Booking fees will apply. Booking Fee: $1.50 for Standard General Admission Ticket"

Do you need to book at Hoyts.com.au or can you just rock up at the Cinema and avoid the booking fee?

    • +5

You can just rock up and there are no booking fees - the problem is you can't book your seats prior to that, so risk getting crappy seats the closer you get to your session - to avoid this book at the cinema well before (days even) your session!
I used a Groupon once when I was in Qld and when I rocked up to book an Xtremescreen session, they didn't know how to uplift the Groupon tickets so they didn't charge me any extra - saved myself $16 (4 tickets)!

      • Thanks mate

    • and it seems you can't use the machines to scan the barcode on the vouchers. gotta get staff to scan your voucher

      • +1

I don't know about the Groupon vouchers but I was able to buy tickets on the kiosks with the Shopback vouchers by scanning the barcodes.

  • Anyone thinking of
Spiderman No way home - The More Stuff Version?

    What about Sunday..?

    • +1

I don't think you can at all on Sundays.

      • +2

All entertainment is frowned upon on Sundays.

    • Should be valid on Sundays. The terms excludes Saturday after 5pm and public holidays only.

  • Has anyone experienced the Onyx?
Is the picture quality really better than let's say IMAX?
Claiming infinite contrast is like OLED.

    • +1

i've watched multiverse of madness and honestly it was really off-putting how clear the screen is, especially because MoM was so vibrant as well, I reckon it's better for horror movies and dark movies in general. it's been decades since i've been to imax so i can't offer a comparison

  • Is Hoyts and Events Cinema the same thing

  • I love how once you have paid for the coupon, you still have to pay a "booking fee".

  • Adding in the Groupon voucher code doesn't work for online bookings - field looks for a 19-character string but the voucher is only 15, so rejects it.
Tried for a LUX session; haven't tried regular.
    Anyone had success?

    • I am also having the same issue for a regular screening

    • i had to go in person and book with the staff

    • me too, not giving me any discount on the Hoyts website, it applies the voucher but doesn't reduce the price for a general admission ticket.

      • From my experience with the Shopback voucher, it adds a separate $0 ticket and does not reduce the price of any of the ticket options provided.

    • +3

youre probably doing it wrong - you put your voucher and pin when you choose the session time - there is a button on the top of the screen that says redeem

once your code and pin is put in it should just show 1.50 for online booking fee- you then just click next- you dont select +1 for adult ticket - it should then bring you to the seat selection screen

      • Yep, you're exactly right.
        Thanks for pointing this out!
