What Are The Best Custom Roms You Have Tried with Android Phones?

I recently tried a custom rom with one of my samsung phones, which is really old and cheap ($150). After installing it was functioning so smooth to my surprise. I was wondering what the best custom rom configurations people are using with yheir phones.

    CyanogenMod 10.

Just jump on XDA forums, find your phone’s sub forum and see what they offer. Usually a good starting place.

I have had Android phones for ~10 years now but I have never rooted any of my phones (I guess I'm not sexually attracted to phones?).

I used to love jailbreaking my iPhones since iPhone's inception because it added so many features and it was nice to stick it to Apple.

Is rooting Android phones difficult? What are some of the benefits of doing it given Android has always had a more open environment than iOS?

You don't need to root to flash a custom ROM in most cases. They are different things in case you are confused.

I am definitely confused then lol

You need more ROMance and less ROOTing in your love life.

    • You need to unlock the boot loader to flash a rom. On some phones it’s really easy

    • To flash a new ROM you need an unlocked bootloader. Difficulty depends on the brand / make of the device

    • Bot h of these seem either focused on, or only available for, Google Pixel phones?

    • These look really cool

Quite a few years ago I put cyanogen on my galaxy S3. It gave it a new life for another year. Everything was bit snappier, the phone felt a tad faster to respond, enough to give it time till I can get a good deal for an upgrade)

I recently put lineageOS on my Tab S (SM-705). I was hoping to use it as a centre console for google map, However it was really slow. And I cannot get Netflix as it is not certified. (After installing custom rom). Tried a few ways, including registering the GSF#. So far no success.

lineage OS is the mainstay of ROMs these days, if you want to "De-google" your phone jsut dont install the g-apps package and google cannot spy.

there are some ROMS that are focused on security but really as soon as you open the app store and install an app, privacy is thrown out the window.

i have used cyanogen roms pre-lineage and revived my old tab 3 with a lineage OS rom and works very well. the only issue i have is that these roms never support s-pen and thus render it like a finger without all the functions and i use my tab a 2016 daily for work and note 8.

realistically in the past few years i havent the need to install custom roms, just launchers to customise the feel and there is a lot you can do, e.g i have made my phone mimic a pipboy to a high detail, took a while but mainly tweaking the finial product butit was fun.

EDIT: not all phones will have custom rom support, qualcom chipsets have big support although the lesser meditech do not have a lot of if any support for their chipsets which is a bummer.

I've got a Redmi note 10 pro from a previous deal and have tried a stack of custom roms. There is a telegram for it with regular custom roms posted and plenty of support.Once you figure out how to flash it becomes easy.

    What I've found-
Lineage OS- great battery life and smooth as ROM
Pixel Experience: really nice google pixel style ROM
Crdroid- lots of extra settings, lots.
Pixel OS- this is my favourite, it has the Xiaomi camera app but combines it with pixel look and feel.

Also randomly, with lineage os I was able to get my old mi pad 4 running android 12l so cool!
