It was on TV the other night. How is this a deal?

    • +7

Between the small screen TV full of ads and cinematic experience with surround sound, its quite different. The deal here is that you only pay $8 vs normal ticket price.
I think people also want to pay tribute to Olivia Newton John too.

    RIP a legend

      The one and only

  • +6

    This deal is automatic

  • +8

I’m more annoyed they are doing this… and no money is going to charity.

  • +4

What a bunch of ambulance chasers. Is this a double feature with the 2015 NRL grand final?

  • +7

Making money off ONJ's passing. How sad for Hoyts.

    • +2

But its ok for the media networks to do it for the last 3 days?

      • I didn't say it's was okay for anyone. But this post is about Hoyts. And who are these media networks you refer to? If you mean streaming companies they are not asking for $8 they are giving their subscribers the opportunity to see the movie again without anything extra to pay. If you mean free to air same goes for them.

        • 9 and 7. Channel 10 refuses to work with my adblocker.

    • +7

they should at least donate part of the ticket price to breast cancer research

  • +2

    Cash Grab.

I looked up trolling, and it was a link to your comment.

What a terrible thing to say

Why not watching in your cosy home on Netflix? My next Hoyts cinema is a 4 hour drive away.

  • +5

At the end of the day who really gives a shit if Hoyts chose to screen grease

    • +5

      ^^^
while i don't think it's a deal, the moral outrage is a bit much.

      • +1

Let's take that the full extent. At the end of the day who cares what anyone posts on Ozbargain or any site for that fact? We seem to use these threads as a place to think aloud.

        • is my comment about moral outrage not a thought given voice?

  • -4

Scumbag trying to take advantage of this. I not going to give money to them.

    • +2

Looks like it's standing-room only for heroes today

  • +11

I really don’t think Olivia would be disgraced that a movie she starred in was being played again on the big screen.

  • Wait what year is this?

    • It's not just year it's this whole era. Very confusing times.

  • +1

It's gotta be a strange twist of fate. Tellin me that heaven can wait

  • +5

Thankfully she’s now in Xanadu so she doesn’t have to listen to us waste our time on ozbargain talking about the merits of hoyts screening grease

  • -4

Funny how no one talked much about her lately….until she dies.

Then.. everyone wants to watch grease, and tell everyone how sad it was that she died, etc.

    • -4

I only noticed Channel 7 Sunrise always talked about her, and I'm getting sick of it, she only made that one good movie Grease, one hit wonder.

      • +4

Oh and that minor thing of creating the cancer wellness centre along with a bunch of hit songs
Anyway I’m starting to go down an ONJ K hole so I’d better stop now.

        • +3

I guess, let her rest in peace, she have done good.

        • You actually think the majority of people talking about her know about this. Hmm.. interesting

    • Yeah, people generally don't tell others how sad it was that someone died, until they've died.

      You're on to something.

      • Poor sarcasm tbh.

Ever noticed that even b grade actors (not saying this about her btw) and piss poor musician, etc, are suddenly the most amazing people. The most talented people, etc… only when they die and the media tells us so.

Yet when really talented amazing people die (non TV or radio type people) you don’t hear much about them when they die.
        Hmmm..

  • They did the same thing when Fred Astaire died

    • Similar to your joke I guess.

    Hoyts

    CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
    No outside food and drinks
Please note, no food and beverages sourced from outside HOYTS are allowed in the cinema.

So I have to eat junk food from your overpriced establishment if I want to watch a movie in a HOYTS cinema?

    • +1

It's a business, they need to make money somehow, like going to a restaurant and paying the 3-4x price for a soft drink.

    • Is buying food a condition of entry?

If not, what a dopey question.

      • No it's not a dopey question. If I want to eat in the cinema, they are saying - as a condition of entry - that we can only buy their hideously overpriced diabetes-accelerant, additive-laden, GMO crap food.

        • You can always smuggle in a bag of popcorn that you made at home.

          • @bennybaubles: Yes of course but the fact that that is even in their conditions of entry is - in my opinion - not doing them any favours. It makes them look bad.

Village has a similar (but more differently-worded, perhaps a bit less directly-stated) policy too.

Both of them are getting $0.00 from me.

    • It is called the clean up your mess tax.

  • +1

Buy 1 ticket, sneak the rest of your mates in the boot of your car.

  • +2

All The tickets proceed should be donated to Olivia cancer charity if Hoyts management has the hearts for the cause and not just the money !!

    • +3

Here's a thought. If it weren't for the success of Olivia Newton-John starring in Grease would the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre even exist? I'm struggling to think of a movie and/or actor that's done more for cancer research and treatment to date.

    • All The tickets proceed should be donated to Olivia cancer charity if Hoyts management has the hearts for the cause and not just the money !!

No thanks. They should just ignore this 'tribute' (cash grab).

Charities are scams where nearly all your money goes to the directors (admin) and only token amounts go where they claim, mostly for advertising purposes. Furthermore, no 'charity' has any interest in a low-cost, universal cure for any ailment they claim to help. This would mean and end to their little scam (and their cushy jobs). Nobody wants that.

The very fact that Hoyts sells sugar-laden, GMO toxic crap is ignored. Have you discovered the link between these things and cancer yet? There are whole industries built on 'treatments' but have you noticed all effective non-chemo cures are hushed up, and any doctor who has cared to speak of cures or any alternative treatments has lost their medical license?

Create the problem. Sell the poor but extremely profitable treatment. Rinse and repeat. Nothing brings the money in like a dead celebrity, and Hoyts are indeed just caahing in, as you've suggested above.
