I do not how how to best explain it but it
looks like Coles have some cheap meat listed via Doordash. Example some pork shoulder and lamb leg roast where the item should be calculated by weight but is for a Fixed price on Doordash.
Doordash links are not allowed as i am a P but the link is
https://www.doordash.com/en-AU/convenience/store/2387089/sea…
Example: $12 for kg lamb leg
$7.5 for 1.94 kg pork shoulder
Try your luck i guess.

Edit to add: a lot of people on MAA have posted that they got their orders. If store will not honour, they will refund the full amonut.

  • Coles on DoorDash will adjust the prices after to reflect the actual cost of the item. If it costs $20 in the store, that's what you'll end up paying + fees.

It's great when an item is on sale, because you pay the lower prices, but for price mistakes like this you'll pay the higher price. YMMV will vary with live chat and getting a refund.

    • +1

If that's true, then that seems very dodgy

      • +2

Yeah - at one point you would only pay the lower of the in-store price and the app-price, but I guess that what costing them too much.

I've seen them adjust prices up now too.

      • How is it dodgy? Coles and Woolies do the same with online shops. You spend say $102.88 as an estimate and it may end up $103.16 or $102.62 for example. It explicitly states this when you order on either platform.

        • Shouldn't pay more than the price you checkout as imo. When I used to work at woolies it would never go up. For example, if you bought 200g of chicken breast online then deli would have to give you at least 200g and you wouldn't be charged for any extra over 200g. Guess they've since changed that since after losing too much money?

          • -3

@nicholasv: So let me get this straight, you expect them to give you more without paying extra? Coles doesn't pass on Doordash fees to customers and now they have to give you a 2kg roast when you only paid for the average 1.5kg?

            • @pennypincher98: Yeh I would tbh, if that's what the price says. How is it any different to in store when they have a pricing error and their policy is that you actually get the item for free? Wouldn't have an issue if they contacted you regarding the additional charge to authorise it, but just charging you more doesn't seem right to me.

              • @nicholasv:

So we've gone from paying for a 1.5kg roast to expecting a 2kg roast to expecting it free. Wow. They likely changed it because people were getting too much meat for their money.

                • @pennypincher98: Goodness you like to twist words, you should be a politician lol. It's their policy, not mine. I would expect them to enforce their own policy, and if their policy happens to mean the product is free, then so be it

                  • @nicholasv: Doesn't the Dasher pay for your shopping and get reimbursed (or its similar to a company credit card)
If that's still their policy that applies to things that are higher than its shelf price. Good luck trying to convince someone that you thought 2kg was a unit price (ie per 2kg). Good luck further trying to get your Dasher to do that.

Just saving people time, money and stress. Including the Dasher who you're putting their job on the line.

Yeah - pretty sure both coles and woolworths online will adjust the price up, if they supply you more than 200g. Perhaps there's some discretion with the person that's picking the order.

            • @salmon123: Hmm yeh must have changed it since I worked there - long time ago though lol. Thanks for the insight, will look at my receipt for next online order. Might purposely get some ham just to see hahah

Works better for bananas/apples - they're always quoted as per piece online, but charged per kilo, as that's how the store sells it.

            • @salmon123: We have been placing plenty of orders on woolies online lately. We have never been charged extra and most if not all deli/butcher items are larger than requested.

        • +1

          How is it dodgy?

Because the app states $7.50 for 2kg, which is obviously a mistake. It should be $7.50/kg.

Price adjustments for items sold by quantity are fine, but price mistakes should be honored in true ozbargain tradition … just seems like it wont be honored with the current behaviour on the door dash app.

Woolworths don't adjust up. You always get either a refund or free product

            Woolworths don't adjust up

            That's not my recent experience

              That's not my recent experience

I'm going to place an order tomorrow morning for Sunday pickup. How would they charge extra if you paid by gift card or prepaid Visa?

                It's a good point - I don't know!

I've never had a situation where my order is fully filled - something or other is always out of stock and that seems to be enough for them to adjust the price up on some things.

                • +1

@salmon123: Order delivered from Woolworths today.
Extra free kransky, 900g free chicken thigh fillets as they misread my 100g as 1kg, extra free banana, extra free duck breast which I didn't even order. Probably over $20 worth free

              • +1

@nicholasv: There's actually been reported instances of Coles overdrawing people's accounts because they've charged the new amount and after refunded the old..

Don't know if that's still the case though.

                • +1

@pennypincher98: Yeh would make sense for a normal debit/bank card, but what about those Coles prepaid mastercards? Maybe that's why Coles have integrated gift card redemption onto their website yet?

                  • @nicholasv: Either out of stock/substitution is less and they can use that or payment may decline and order cancel (if it's still the two transaction model they're running with). If it's just the one, it could block you from further transacting until the difference is paid (happened to me on Uber Eats, but that's a different story).

                    • @pennypincher98: Who would have thought that online shopping would have so many moving parts damn hahah

                      • +2

@nicholasv: Yeah it's crazy, big reason why I just shop in store tbh. It's easier to know when you get to the checkout how much it's gonna cost and whether things are available.

Substitutions can be so shit too, like baked beans instead of black beans (completely different use cases).

                        • @pennypincher98: Yeh I agree. If I do only shops then I never allow substitutions but then only get half my order. Much easier in store

                          • +2

@nicholasv: Yeah that's the thing if you don't allow substitutions then sometimes the key ingredient for dinner doesn't come and then you're screwed 😂

                  • @nicholasv: Can’t use zip pay with Coles. I tried maybe last year I think it was and they cancelled the order as they couldn’t charge the card a second time. Its a one time use card.

Was very annoying as we were all home sick.

The staff members time was wasted because their system is/was rubbish! I’m not sure if they have changed it since.

Apparently they take an authorization first, then the actual payment once everything has been packed in store.

            • @salmon123: Check your tax invoice. I've been shopping from Woolworths online for years now and now put delivery orders through at least twice a week. I always do my weight hacks and never been charged for extra weight provided. Salmon is the best value as you can often end up with at least $3 worth free.

  • They've recently moved from a static pricing system (that was based on the average pack/roast) to a per kg that reflects the actual price.

    Try your luck i guess.

Oh yeah good idea, let's all buy the same meat but for more expensive.

  • My local Coles seem to have already caught on and removed the Lamb Leg.

I've always found it funny that who post deals they found on maa on ozb ALWAYS credit the source. People who repost ozb deals on maa NEVER credit the source.

  • This makes dasher in trouble. The price difference is too big. And dasher payment will be blocked at checkout.

  • Don't forget the Woolworths online hacks. Best deals are
160g kransky/chorizo from the deli normally gets you 250g. Free 90g.

340g of salmon fillets normally gets you 450g. Free 110g.

    • +1

Tell me more. I have never known this!

      • +2

Just add those to your basket online. Woolworths never charge extra. They either give you extra product to ensure you get at least what you paid for or they refund you. Things like pork, lamb are all by weight and they charge you a maximum amount, weigh the product and refund the difference. Things like deli counter stuff (bacon, fish, kransky, chorizo, marinara mix, etc) are sold at a fixed cost for a minimum amount. Since larger products cannot be split, they have to give you another piece. Hence why the hack works for those sweet spot amounts I shared above.

  • Cancelled my order from a couple of hours ago

    • I got several coles orders this evening. All related with these meat. Since doordash Have payment protection mechanism, dasher cannot pay at checkout if the price difference is too big. Have to cancel the order by dasher.

  • I think this may have been fixed. As the prices online match in store.

This worked for me earlier! I ended up with 5+kg of pork roast for $15 (2.8kg + 2.4kg approx at $19.?? Instore price Each), 1 whole lamb leg for $12 (instore price $33) and 3 whole chickens ($10 instore price each) for $5 each.
