Looking for Recommendations on Where to Buy an Ergonomic Office Chair?

Hey Guys,

I'm looking for suggestions on where to buy an ergonomic office chair at a reasonable price, such as the Herman Miller Mirra 2, Haworth Fern, Steelcase leap, Secretlab neue, and so on. These chairs are extremely expensive, and purchasing a pair in new condition would set me apart by $3,000. I don't mind purchasing used ones if they are in good condition.

I looked on Facebook Marketplace, but the ones that are there are either in poor condition, are very old, lack armrests, or are too far away.

I'm wondering if there are any shops in Sydney that sell used office chairs that they might get from offices, etc. at reasonable prices.

Do you have any recommendations for a good ergonomic office chair for sitting at home for long periods of time, as well as a good place to buy them?

    Ikea Markus.

    /End thread.

    • I hated the Markus. Had it for around a year and found the lumbar uncomfortable, and the seat was becoming worn out. I suppose it's a good chair for some people — but that's the thing with chairs - what's good for some may not be good for others.

      • My main one going strong after 5 years. My other one looks near new.

    • Thanks Mate; I have this currently and is great at the price point. However I find it uncomfortable for me because its armrest is not adjustable, lumbar support is weak and so is the cushioning of the seat.

TBH I never installed my arm rests. Doesn't suit my desk and correct seat and desk height for posture.

  • I bought a used aeron in Melbourne from a used office furniture store. Essentially they buy used office equipment in bulk when a business is looking to sell and then resell them.
I was able to walk in, choose one that I wanted (with arm rests and in good condition) .
I'd suggest trying to find one of these in Sydney

    • Yes that's what I'm looking for; if someone has a recommendation for a used office furniture shop in Sydney

    • I love this idea - do you remember what the store was called?

    • @JMosk I am also looking for a used ergonomic office chair. Could you please share the business name/address of that place in Melbourne?

I called up before and made sure they had the chair I was after. And then I walked around and chose the best cause the one they put out for me wasnt in great condition

        • Thanks, Mate! It seems they have a warehouse in Sydney too! I'll call them and find out

Go test drive few chairs, if its fits you, that's the winner. Herman Miller range design to fit most, fully customizable, perfect for office with people in different shape and size.

  • Prices went up with WFH (but if you're complaining about condition/age, I think you might be too picky)

I got my Steelcase at KB office furniture (now at Kingsgrove) a few years back. Stock not guaranteed at these kinds of places - just turn up at any used office furniture place (google) and look through tbh.

  • Also check out gumtree.

I’ve tried all kinds of ergonomic chairs (supplied by work), including one tailor made to my body measurements. Some of them felt ok at first, but none of them were comfortable enough to sit all day without discomfort/pain. Then I found an old/antique wooden dining chair (with arms) thrown away on the side of the road. I put a thin feather-filled cushion underneath me on the wooden seat, and 2 cushions behind my back. I can sit on it all day and all night without any discomfort/pain. Note, the placement of the cushions is important. I mostly sit in a kind of upright position with straight back.

    • That's creative! Good for you mate

  • Some OzB's have raved on about Ergoduke range - sets you around roughly $180-$250 depending on what you want.
