Had a look at the manual, and it says that the brush cutter nut has to replaced after every use…
Is this normal for brush cutters or just this model? It wasn't mentioned in the deal post comments, but if this is true, it certainly adds to the price in the long run!

Or am I just reading it wrong?

WARNING! THE BLADE NUT (M10 SELF-LOCKING, LEFT-HAND THREAD)
MUST NOT BE RE-USED. WHEN RE-INSTALLING THE BLADE, USE A NEW
BLADE NUT. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE CAN RESULT IN
SERIOUS INJURY.

Note: Spare blade nut (M10 x 1.25) can be ordered from Special Orders Desk at your local Bunnings
Warehouse.

Not just extra expense, but if you didn't realise before hand and really needed to use it, you'd have to wait and buy extra first.

    WHEN RE-INSTALLING THE BLADE

You only need to replace it when reinstalling the blade.

    • But usually the brush cutter and line trimmer share the same shaft (giggity) so changing over might be more common than you think.

  • I am sure there is a specialist fastener joint around where you can buy half a dozen for $10.
This place would probably be the go, just look how basic the website is, they know their stuff ;)
If it's not a left hand thread, you could also go to supercheap or back to the bunnings nut aisle

Never read the manual - then you don't discover shit like this.

You are better off naively operating the device.

IMO they're just covering their ass by saying it should be replaced every time, personally I wouldn't bother… Nyloc nuts like that can usually be reused a few times before they start getting slogged out… Also, with the blade having a round hole with no locating flat spot or such, if the nut does happen to start loosening the blade will just spin on the shaft and not cut, it will be damn obvious it's come loose…

And just to cover my ass, safety first, replace it every time you take the blade off, lol

(being a left hand thread it's probably unlikely fastener stores will stock them)

The replacement blade kits I see comes with the nut. Whether or not it's the same nut you need, I don't know. Haven't had to replace one.
    e.g. https://www.bunnings.com.au/powerfit-26cm-tri-star-brushcutt…

  • i've never changed my nuts, they're pretty old but still holding good

btw, you can buy a whole bunch of lh m10x1.25 nyloc nuts from aliexpress for a couple of dollars
