GLYCINE Combat Classic 40 Moonphase (Swiss Automatic) US$297.59 + US$29.95 Delivery (~A$465) @ Ashford

280
SUMMER7

This is an amazing price for a Swiss Auto Moonphase watch from a well regarded brand with a great history. Authorised Glycine dealer with full manufacturers warranty

I purchased this one recently for a little more and am loving it.

Shipping from Ashford is very fast, a fair rate and covers multiple items if you spot something else you like.

Here's a video of the blue version (which is currently available for US$349 plus shipping). I am very happy with the silver and it was the right colour choice for me

  • Are these legit? Seems really low price for most of their watches.

    • +1

      they are legit …..great quality ….bought a wr200 on a previous deal …..invicta bought the company ……

    • Yes - definitely legit. I have purchased many watches from them - some are gray market but they are also ADs for for some brands. I did have an issue on arrival with a Hamilton purchased from them and ultimately decided on a return and refund - but I had also contacted the local Hamilton (Swatch Group) service centre and confirmed options for warranty repair. In my experience Ashford customer support has been great with a couple of other matters that were dealt with quickly and to my satisfaction.

      • glycine isnt a brand anyone would want to counterfeit

but you aint gonna find a cheaper swiss moonphase auto

    • Yep. I own two Combat Subs in fact, and I cannot find a flaw on either. One is stainless steel on a braclet, but my bronze with a black dial and gilt markers and hands is amazing. There are plenty of videos on Youtube. I bought SS from Ashford and the bronze from another US seller.

  • Great value. This is a reasonably priced Swiss auto with a moon phase.

  • I was going to comment on that poor numeral legibility on the dial but your gnomonwatches link makes the numerals black? Is it just good (or bad) lighting? Can't seem to find many user photos/videos on this reference.

I also hadn't managed to find any videos of the silver but had checked some of the glycine silver bienne which has almost identical dial hands and numerals

I have found legibility fine but haven't yet seen how it fares in sunlight. Numerals are silver but there is good contrast against the dial and they usually appear to be darker than they really are. I had considered whether the blue might be easier to read but I am not sure about that and I am very happy I chose the silver. If you prefer the blue, you might get it a little cheaper than the flash deal once that ends as coupons can then be used and I have seen the blue at $349 several times over the last couple months (just as a regular sale or weekly deal item - with a 7% or 10% coupon able to be used then).

      • Is there an import tax?

        • Never had any on my Ashford orders.

Ashford doesn't add and collect GST and the charging of duty and GST at the border applies only for orders with value over $1000

      • Good to know. Gnomon watches acutally makes the blue numerals look black so I'm not sure what's up with their lighting The blue looks good (it's at 349 USD now) and black even better but not discounted unfortunately. The blue dial version also has 200m water resistance which is weird. Gnomon watches has it at 100m. Who's right and why the difference from the silver…?

        • Gnomon is wrong. Glycine GL0385 has 50m WR.

          • @carlJack: so is ashford and amazon wrong too?

this is weird. they just copied each other? lol

            • +1

@mit: Yes. If you zoom at the caseback, it says sapphire Crystal 5 ATM.

        • I think the black has been at 349 previously and will probably come back to the same level as the other colours. Ashford tends to put prices up and down frequently so it could come back sown in a week or two

As a person who owns multiple watches (with multiple automatics), it's impossible to keep my regulars wound/charged. So I'm having trouble keeping them in time, let alone in date/correct am/pm.

So a moonphase is really cool but would be sooo wasted on someone like me. So something to consider, if you already have a bunch of automatics.

A moonphase would be awesome on solar or even a quartz though!

    • Worth getting a cheap watch winder for watches that you want to always keep in time. For the rest, I just set them everytime I choose to wear it.

      • +1

The problem with cheap watch winder is they have a loud whirring noise, nearly 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Even then, they aren't cheap.

For an expensive perpetual, it'd definitely be worth it. Everyone's situation is different but it doesn't make sense to me to spend $100 on a winder to keep a <$500 watch on time.

  • For those who bought from them before, any idea which courier Ashford uses and whether any import fees or GST applicable?

    • +1

      UPS Worldwide Expedited:

Never any GST or import fees on my orders with them under AUD1000

      • Same experience here. I've bought a few from Ashford.

  • I've seen Glycine mentioned a lot recently. I though this was good value.

  • Fantatsic!…Sellita movement for < $500

  • This is a great price, but I have too many watches already…

  • Can I wind this up using the crown? I enjoy doing that with my current watch.

    • +1

      yep - handwind and auto

  • Hi OP! Thanks for this post! Would you happy to have any pictures of this on the wrist? Can't seem to find anything online :)

  • Here are a couple on my 7 inch wrist

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/77256/97606/moonphase.…

Wears its full 40mm but I think that's fine.

The Glycine strap is very nice and I will also use that, but I had this blue sharkskin in mind when I bought the watch

  • Out of stock, anyone know a place with similar pricing?

  • Missed out on this deal so if anyone who bought the watch isn't a fan of it, I'll buy it off you!
