Help Find Replacement Screw for Orico M2 SSD Enclosure Model PRM2-C3

Hi ozbers, I bought an Orico enclosure from this deal and it has been working great so far. Recently I lost one of the screw that it came with. The screw driver says T5x30mm so I assume the screw head is a T5.

I want to replace all 5 screws with a standard Philip head, however, I don't know which screw is compatible. The instruction manual just calls them screw, same with info on Orico website for this product. Clicking through to aliexpress from the original deal comes up with an upgraded version, but still no details on the type of screw it uses.

Can you see a Mx any where x is a number like 3,5 or 6 or 9? This is the missing diameter of the screw. You could measure it and try a computer store if they have any or just take the screw into the local computer store and ask if they have any.

The T5 is the Torx driver you need to use.
The x30mm is the length of the screw.

    • Thanks for the reply!

Is diameter of the screw linked to the length as well? I don't see any writing on the screw but I can measure it.

      • No.

But saying that I have seen M40x5 screws, but have not seem M3x60 as it would be way too easy to snap in half.

      • I think it's more likely that the 30mm on the screwdriver refers to the length of the shaft on the screwdriver. You can't expect the maker of the screwdriver to know what length of screws it will be packaged with.

For the screw itself, you should measure it with a ruler that has 0.5mm gradations or a vernier caliper, possibly with the aid of a magnifying glass or by taking a well focused photograph of the screw next to the ruler and zooming in. To work out the thread pitch, measure the distance between six thread peaks and divide by 5.

It's most likely an ISO metric screw thread.

Example: If the nominal width (width to the outside of the threads) is 2mm then you probably have an M2 screw. If your five thread turns are at 2mm then thread pitch is 0.4mm which is an M2 coarse going by the table in wikipedia. However generally the "coarse" thread is considered the standard thread and not specified so I would expect any screw designated as M2 to have that pitch unless "fine" thread pitch was specified. If the threaded part of the screw was 5mm long when you would want an M2x5mm screw.

  • Just take the screw and go into a computer shop or bunnings and ask the staff to find you something similar with a philips head. Then you just give it a go on the spot before making a purchase for a box of screws.

  • Buy a box of Mx screws from fleabay and never have to worry about missing a tech screw again. Might set you back $20, but they don't go stale in the spares draw.
