My father in-law who is an oldie was going on about his socks he got from Australian Woolen Mills. I’d looked it up but haven’t bought any yet. Basically the conversation started with how bad Explorers are these days compared to when they were made by Holeproof.
These are made in Melbourne as they have been for decades. They are really warm apparently. I will buy some sometime. Half to support Aussie made but half because I’d like to try them.

What’s the actual content of each fibre?
I've been using these (wool/nylon variety) for decades, and they do last for many years. But I'm still working my way through ten pairs I bought about a decade ago, half are still unopened. Current socks may be different.

From memory, the "cloth" (outer) part of the sock is nylon or nylon blend, the looped "towelling" fibers are wool.
I'm wearing a pair of these right now and ordered more. Thanks Op. The 11-14s stretch to bigger feet too btw, comfortable on my 17 clod hoppers
I'll pass on these, the cotton version doesn't last anywhere near as long as the wool version.

Do you mean “with cotton ones”? I am pretty sure they are not 100% cotton.
I think I have both but dunno which is which. Are the cotton ones rougher or softer? I have a couple of Explorers which are stretchy as hell and slip down all the time. There seems to be no consistency with these.
$7.50 half price at Coles every few weeks ($45 for 6) so this looks like a pretty good discount for nice, thick work socks
