They improved these days? Old days you'd easily save $100 by NOT going to OPSM. Genuinely don't know.

Stopped going there years ago, they chuck on all these extra charges for anti-scratch and anti-glare coatings, and a few hundred more if you want lenses thinner than the bottom of coke bottles

      • Yeah, that matches the experience that I recall.

I went in for my first pair of glasses, admittedly naive to it all.

They told me I could have a pair for free with my health insurance.

Asked me if I wanted all the coatings etc without ever mentioning a price.

When I scanned my health insurance card they said "OK so there's a gap of $650".

      Walked straight out. Never again.

  • Eyebuydirect have BOGOF frames and 15pc off.

  • What if I submitted my prescription as 0?

  • Yer not good if you need progressive. Go with clearly half the price for top of the range lenses. Plus 35% off first pair and free shipping. OPSM is a joke.

    Persols inc. lens
    OPSM $310

Go to Jins.com/jp , buy a frame then you can get 1.74 high index lenses for free. The are offering 50% off for new customers, which makes a pair of titanium glasses only 70 AUD. They also offer blue light screen lenses for free. Forwarding the parcel to Australia will take around 30AUD

    • What brand lens does Jins.com/jp supply?

What is the approximate cost of lenses from a good manufacturer such as Nikon or another brand from an international site such as jins.com/pp?

      • +1

Hoya or Tokai, both are very good manufacturers made in Japan
        Idk, probably around $200 - $300

        • Thank you very much Bob. Jins is truly a high-quality product compared to most online sellers such as Zenni

Jins only has one type of lens upgrade. Basic for JPY 0 or an upgrade for JPY 5500 (free if the frame is over JPY 8800).
Hence could I assume all the features that are extra's in AU such as high index, anti-reflective, scratch resistant, blue light coating (if I chose the computer lens) will ALL be included with this one type of lens upgrade for JPY$5500

I am planning to order 3 pair ( driving, computer and sunglasses) and hopefully will get 50% off all of them and pay one fee to forward to AU

Could you kindly provide details about forwarding parcels to AU.

          • @utsc: I think high index, anti-reflection, scratch-resistant are included for the free lens. Only blue light coating will require an upgrade. Be aware the highest index for Jins screen( blue light coating) is 1.67.
I used buyandship.com.au to forward parcel. New user will get $10 credit. So the first parcel will cost $35 - $10

            • @Bob Lou: Thanks. Bob are you please will your purchase and delivery from Jins and buyandship
I am planning to order today or tomorrow.

              • +1

@utsc: It’s still in transit, so far so good.

                • @Bob Lou: Thanks. I am assuming the lenses used by Jins is far better than the ones used at goggles4u

                • @Bob Lou: Hi Bob,

Have you received your glasses? Are you happy and would you order your next pair from Jins?

Would appreciate if you can share your thoughts / review?

                  • @utsc: Hi, sorry for the late reply, as I just received my parcel, it was stuck at customs for almost a month (bad luck). I'm very happy with the glasses. I would definitely buy my next pair from Jins. The titanium frame is super light compared to my old ones.

        • Thanks for this @bob.

I've just tried to put an order in, but there's a section in the "Delivery Address" in Google Translate that shows "Say (Kana)" & "Mei (Kana)" just under the Last Name & First Name section, do you know what that means?

I can't see anything that maps in the generated address from buyandship.

          • @HyperZ: It asks for your first name and last name in Katakana. You can google Hiragana Katakana converter.

  • Free my boy Cartier

    • Can please explain

      • In the original post

        Offer excludes Cartier

so I was asking to not exclude the brand "Cartier".

        • Thanks. I thought Cartier was forwarding parcels from JP to AU for free :) lol

  • I went shopping around for lens replacements - with my PHI and its 20% discount, OPSM went from exuberantly overpriced to just merely 'almost competitive'.

  • Those who get health fund rebates, Specsavers usually fully covers 2 pairs of glasses. Is there such an option for OPSM?

  • Who manufactures the lenses for Costco in AU?

    • I believe they are Essilor, but unsure of which range. They have a special if you buy 2 pairs now you get 20% back and an additional $50 off the final price.
