Dunlop FM800 Tyres: Buy 3 Get 4th Free @ Bob Jane T-Marts

380

I’ve been looking at tyres over the last few days including calling about 10-15 places locally. This appears to be a good all round tyre which isn’t as soft as other sports tyres so should still give some good tread wear at the cost of performance (or so I’ve been told…)

Note: Price online will be higher for every tyre place. I recommend calling instead as they will always be cheaper over the phone.

I’ve just booked in with alignment $588 for all 4 in 215/60 R16 for your reference.
MyCar can order these in but will only knock off $1 per tyre and the wait time for me was over a week.

The offer is valid from 1 July - 31 August 2022. Receive the fourth (4th) matching tyre free with the purchase of three (3) selected Dunlop SP Sport FM800 tyres in one transaction. In case of a staggered fitment the fourth (Free) tyre must be of equal or lesser value. Offer valid while stocks last. Offer excludes Government and Wholesale purchases. Not available with any other offer.

I always thought FOG was the default option?

Mandatory tissue box on the parcel shelf, I assume?
I've got an Altise sitting in my driveway, I must put another tissue box in there.

        • +1

No ;) Waiting for the next Amazon special on tissues of course.

          • @AusNugz: Going the whole hog? 12 boxes of Quilton along the back would be epic. Pics pls…

I demand a deal where I can buy 2 tyres and get the third free.

I drive a camry and car hire one for a day to swap the tires :)

    • My car used to be a hire car and came with Chinese tyres so I don’t know if this will always pay off.

    • +2

Just the tyres or rims too?

Even if you just swapped 1 out and chucked it in the spare it would surely be ages before they noticed?

Hate the buy 3 get one free model for tyre shops. Just say 25% off you snakes!!!

    • +6

agree but for them it is better to get you in for 4 then just one or two tyres

    • +3

What's a you snake and are they good value at 25% off?

appears to be a good all round tyre

I find round ones the best.

    • well, the statement you quoted was 'all round', seems pretty round to me
      .

    • +1

What other shapes have you worked with? We might need to test square just in case we find an untapped market.

      • There's an apparently realistic simulation that someone did a while ago, with square wheels on a ridged road.

Turns out, round still better. Shock, horror.

      • Triangle are a brand of tyre…

Seems better than the Ozbargain favourite of the serenity plus

    https://tirewheelguide.com/tires/compare/bridgestone-turanza…

    • I'm not sure if our experience is an isolated one but it seemed like these tyres wear out faster? Had them for under 2 yrs and around 25000km and they seem quite worn.

      • I have got 90k kms out of serenity plus in the past. Always at correct pressure, rotated every 10k and no friggin dry turning. They are a ripper tyre.

        • I've got the serenity plus on the ifes Mazda 6 and seems better good so far. Wear seems OK but I'm not sure how many km done

        • Mine were up to 110k KMs on the old camry (beginning to become dangerous) before I got some Pirelli cinturatos from the mycar 50% off deal. Solid investment.

      • +1

Sorry I was talking about the dunlop fm800. The birdgestone serenity seem better lasting

    • I guess I’m about to find out. Reviews look pretty good. Dunlop is owned by Goodyear.

    • 16” isn’t a common tyre size anymore. Can I ask what car you’re driving?

I had a Suzuki Swift Sport with 16” wheels and sometimes found it hard for tyres.

      • +4

16" is a very common size.

The swift probably has some weird width/profile ratio which made them more difficult to find.

        • Yep, very obscure ratio. It was always a pain.

    • Do you need a wheel alignment? Unless your hitting pot holes or curbs a lot you don't need one every time you get new tyres.

      • Part of warranty

      • For the price I’m not really fussed. I think I’ll get the alignment just give these tyres a fair go and see how the treadwear is.

        • That makes sense. Cheers

      • That's a very general statement. Many eco sets will last you almost 6 figures, so yeah you probably want to be getting an alignment much more often than every changeover.

Picked up a set of Hankook DynaPro HP2 RA33 for the wife's Mazda SUV 225/65R17 102H $670 including wheel alignment. Seems to be a pretty decent tyre for the money, very quiet. Wanted the Dunlop FM800 but none in stock locally. Had Goodyear Optilife on before which were hard wearing (60k+ but noticed cracked sidewalls and cupping) also noticeably louder and lousy grip in the rain.

Have had these tyres on my old commodore for years now, still going strong. Amazing performance in the wet, even after years of tread wear.

  • +1

FWIW I just got a set of these put on my 2014 Mazda6 wagon (225/55 R17) replacing a set of truly horrendous Kenda tyres.

So far I'm really impressed! Very quiet (I can actually hear the engine on the freeway now, rather than the tyres), great wet grip and really responsive.

Obviously no idea about wear yet, but I'm really pleased with them.

  • I got these recently, very happy with them so far. Quiet, smooth, good grip.

  • I put these on a suzuki swift a few months back and they completely transformed the car. One of the best rated for stopping distance in the wet, and perhaps more importantly the cold. Yes, their mileage isn't insane but it's not crap either. Nice and quiet too and a good sporty leaning blend of sporty and comfy.

For Melbourne weather, I wanted that peace of mind.

  • I'm on my third set of Dunlop FM800 and honestly wouldn't buy anything else. Good grip, slow wear, cheap, and quiet. Can't really ask for more.

  • Are these suitable for suv like subaru outback 225 60/r18?

  • Very similar to mechx's q above
I have a Subaru Forester that's coming up on needing a tyre change - 215/65R16 - first one for this car, since I've owned it so looking for some tips.

Regular use is fair amount of commuting around Sydney to various sites, the occasional (ie 3-4 times a year) trip to Canberra or the snow, also occasional dirt road use (i.e. driving out to trail heads in the Blue mountains or on national park roads to camp sites)

I'm a touch thrown by this being a "sport tyre" - is this geared at something more performance based than my use? Or would this be a good value, and good use case, fit for the above?

If any other forrie owners on here have a better tyre suggestion I'd be happy to hear :)
