Has My LCD TV Died?

Watching a Kayo stream via Apple TV AirPlay and the screen just slowly faded to black with backlights still on.

Tried unplugging, leaving off for hours and nothing. No menu, no power on logo, no source change, channel change, nothing other than backlights. Can’t navigate to attempt factory reset.

It’s a 10 year old TV so not too my bothered, but would like to know what went wrong, and if it’s saveable.

On the plus now get to figure out which 65” TV to replace it with.

10 years old it's probably not worth trying to fix. If the backlight works and there's no image it could be any number of issues but likely something has fried in the panel or the mainboard or somewhere in between. Does it have any kind of phone app or anything like that you could see if it's responding on?

Might be worth looking at the price of a new mainboard but personally I'd just use the excuse to upgrade.

Your 3rd capacitor on the upper right on the green board blew. Happened to me on a same model.

    • And very easy to replace. 1 hour of your time and $3.49 of materials

      • alternately just look for the power board on aliexpress

  • Google the model for DIY fix video on youtube and follow them to pull it part to see if it's the same fault as in the video, but if it's not then go to the next video.

We can't possibly diagnose the specific issue that happened to your particular device. There's so many possibilities on what might have gone wrong or failed.

Take it apart and have a look if you're so inclined. A multimeter will help if there's no obvious signs of blown chips.

    • You forgot to say be make sure you unplug the TV from the wall power socket before you pull it apart…. Got to ensure OP does not get some extra frying on the side.

Can I ask for an advice also?
7 year old tv lg 49uf680t now showing signs of faded yellowish grey corners when there is a black backround like a Netflix startup screen. Not noticeable during tv/movies watching. Can it be fixed somehow? Can it be the result of closeby location of soundbar? magnetic fields or something influencing tv screen?
