Help in Booking Multi City Travel

Hello everyone,

I am looking for some guidance in booking multi city travel.

I am looking to travel from Melbourne to Phuket (Layover in Singapore) and return.

However, while going I want to take a break in Singapore for 7 days (so that I can fly to another destination) but this is something I am not able to do online on the Singapore Airlines website.

Even with the multi city option on their website, it doesn't work. I called up the Airlines and the rep (who had no clue half the time) said that I could just book the Melbourne to Phuket return and then call them to change the dates as required.

Is this the only option or is there any other way to approach this type of booking.

A few years back, I was able to do such a booking online but not sure if things are now different.

Thanks in advance !

User error. You certainly can. Make sure you're putting in the right multi-city destinations.

    • Thanks for your reply.

I did the same thing, but when I put a couple more additional flights, then it comes up as 'flights not available'. Guess need to do it as two bookings.

Is the problem that there's no flights on that day? I can make it work easily.

Tried a travel agent maybe? Takes all the pain out of booking for you.

  • When you book a multi city flight, all legs of the flight must be on the same class (eg: if one leg is in economy, all connecting flights and return flights must be economy). This can cause "No flight available" errors to come up when you do an extended stop over as the next flight you want to catch may not have any seats available in your selected class.

If you want to extend your stop over in Singapore, it is possible that the date you picked for the flight out of Singapore does not have an seat in your selected class and you will need to shift the dates around. However, this information is not available to us and can only be seen by the customer service rep or a travel agent.

The customer service rep you spoke to has no idea what they're doing. You can do one of three things:

    1) Book two separate flights (1 flight to singapore return to melbourne followed by 1 flight to phuket return to singapore - or vice versa depending on where you want to end up at the end of your two flights)

    2) Call SIA customer service and ask for dates available on the phuket to singapore leg (or which ever leg you want to do the stop over). Once you confirm what dates are available on the leg where you want to do your stop over, ask to book a multi city ticket with those dates that have been confirmed to be available.

    3) Go book with a travel agent.

I recommend option 3) especially if you want to travel on to another place after stopping over in Singapore. The moving parts become too complicated to deal with.
    Good luck!

    • Thanks heaps for your detailed message. Will go for option 3 to play it safe.
