Maybe this will be the lucky one!
The odds are probably about on par with winning lotto š
Same, but pretty much every lucky draw comp posted here will have thousands of entrants (not entries) so it's rather expected and frankly, a poor investment of time if you are able to get a job.
The JayZ US$5k setup one, for a simple high-value/high-profile example (I'd use this comp but it hasn't been up for long so it'd be misleading), has a chance equalized value of about 14 cents[1] assuming you've got all the codes so far, so working the adult min wage ($21.38/h) for even 30 seconds would be a better investment of time (17c) — so logically, if it takes more than 30 seconds to enter the JayZ one & are doing it primarily for the prize (ie, don't actively enjoy the process / think it's a chore), it'd be a poor use of time if any alternate time-money sinks are available.
[1]: 2868729 (total entries) / 56 (my entries) = a chance of 1/51227
US$5000 is about A$7400, so $7400 (value) / 51227 (chance) results in a chance-equalized value of $0.144I don't think anyone is comparing entering comps to having a job. It's no different to any other hobby or pastime except sometimes you might win something.
Perhaps? It was just an attempt to put the chance into perspective.
Wouldn't say giving away my information to spam callers is a hobby
Yeah, in the last five years, I have won one $500 coles gift and few minor prizes like shirts or chocolates. I guess Gleam competitions are much harder to win due to the odds.
It is absolutely a numbers game.
When I had a LOT more time to devote to comping a few years back due to being very lightly employed, I won a lot of prizes. A car, a trip for two to Vegas, my DeLonghi Prima Donna coffee machine I still use (and thank the comping gods for) every morning. 25WOL competitions often have fewer entries and therefore a better chance of winning, and those were the competitions where I had the best luck.
.The high value prizes were wonderful, but I will add that some of the best prizes were the experiences I would never have had if I hadn't won them. Spending time with the cheetahs at Canberra zoo, seeing Robbie Williams in Melbourne, taking family to the Daintree for a week.
Phalaxis is right; it is a hobby with some occasional wonderful surprises.
That is a lot of amazing prizes. Congratulations.

Yes, and people treating it like that don't complain about never winning comps as that's not their primary goal. It's why I initially said "ie, don't actively enjoy the process" & made the comment in the first place.
Wow you got some high value prizes there, is there any trick to the 25WOL entries that made yours stand out?
Best one I have won is a trip for 2 to Sydney to play SimCity before it got released. It was a Facebook 25WOL and it asked what you would do if you were mayor and I wrote something akin to "I would be a mayor who keeps his promises, an alien invasion every month and a flood every other week" since the disasters were my favorite part of SimCity.
There was a transformers 25WOL contest to win a trip to China and see the robotic dinosaur zoo and I really wanted to win that so I entered it every day while it was running (T&C said daily entries allowed) but didn't get any prizes from it :(
I had a friend who used to link me a bunch of Facebook contests from various tech companies and I won some fans and a couple flash drives but nothing really amazing.
frankly, a poor investment of time if you are able to get a job.
That's why I only enter contests when i'm at work ;)
Lol nice.
However I just want to clarify since I think I might've been misunderstood by a couple people — I don't believe hobbies are investments, which is why I used that word. Imnobody's comment just made me think they were entering primarily because of the prize & not because they simply enjoyed comps.
I entered this comp, hope I win. No need to go through these math just enter and hope for the best :)
I have nothing better to do with my time :)
@eepykate: I did score a PC doing these comps before, so I think it's a great use of time:

@Cartmanizm: I'm not sure on your point?
I never said that one shouldn't enter comps if they want to, or even that it's a bad idea if one enjoys it — my usage of the word 'investment' was very intentional, hobbies are not investments.
My last comment was saying that that the reason I did the math was because I'm bored and have no better way of spending my time rn.
The calculations are appreciated but I just canāt wrap my head around the ādonāt actively enjoy the processā part.
Like honestly, whatās there to enjoy about filling out forms and hopes being crushed?
I know Iām coming off as jaded, and I am, after so many comps and only a terrible terrible piece of crap OPPO phone to show for it but I am also genuinely curious what is fun/enjoyable about comping.
If you are strictly referring to the WoL or other creative ones then I get that for the creatively inclined it would be enjoyable but just filling in your details?
How is that remotely enjoyable?
For me at least, it's just something to do with a potential reward. ā I don't have much else going on in life, and I'm unemployed for now.
Thank you, Phalaxis!
Thanks Phalaxis for sharing!
