Recommendations on Alarm + CCTV systems for Newly Established home.

Hi,

I'm just looking to get advise and recommendations on what brands are good when it comes to alarms + cctv.

I've looked around and been quoted a range of items. The brands range from Hills Reliance (Australian), Bosch (German), Dahua, Hikvision and Uniview.

Requirements
6 x PIR Motion Sensor
1 x NVR
6 - 8 x CCTV Cameras (Min. 6MP)
2 x Fob Key (Or App controlled alarm)

Also whats the minimum warranty you'd look for in these systems? I've had quotes ranging from 1 year to 3 years.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    wow, what you selling? :)

  • I have installed Bosch alarm and Dahua cameras. My question is why do you need so many sensors and cameras. You are probably better off having a hybrid system and use less sensors and cameras for a value for money outcome.

Most CCTV are comes with motion capture, don't need Motion Sensor , then you be monitoring every dog, cat , fly or spider that pass by, and op got 6+ of them :)
OP also need to consider cloud backup and proper notification system too.

      • Absolutely agree.

    • That’s true, PIR is in most of our rooms as we have quite a lot of windows.

Was thinking atleast 5 cameras as we are a corner block and have more enter spots.

What do you think about Dahua push notification systems? I’ve been told they having issues and got recommended Hikvision instead.

Thanks for your comments and recomm tho 🙂

Shouldn't it be less cams in corner block?
Well you can buy a one Hikvision and test it out. Their notification are basic, no way near good as Ring.
Hikvision cameras are great, i got no issues with them, maybe for commercial level. For personal use, Ring or google equivalent got better features.

That's why I move away from Hikvision to Ring.

Then you have to work on your storage, remote back up etc.

You probably don't need to cover every window. If someone enters from a window, they will still need to get to what they are after. Plus the sensors these days cover much wider arc. If you are concerned about not have coverage, you could consider PTZ. Having said that, if someone is already inside after going past the camera perimeter, there isn't much you can do other than hope to scare them with the alarm going off or call a neighbour to sticky beak.
I have had Hikvision in the past. IMO Dahua's app integration is better than HikVision. I didn't see any issues with notifications.

  • Don't assume a minimum of 6MP is required.

    Something like
    https://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/All-Products/Network-…

will wipe the floor with most Ring/Google etc cameras and it's "only" 4MP. You want to check the nightvision quality etc.

    • What do you check for when looking at night vision quality in the specs?

Consider using Bosch with a mix of PIR and reed switches, I wouldn't install PIRs in the bedrooms as you won't be able to arm the system if anyone is at home sleeping.

The reed switches will secure your boundary and you can configure a stay setting to just arm the reeds and an away that will include any PIRs and reed switches you have.

Most Bosch systems come with 2 remotes for arming and disarming, also an app for use from your phone but it can be a little slow and the wifi module might need restarting once in awhile.

Hikvision is fine if you are after a DVR solution, just note that on a two storey house if you install the cameras under the eaves upstairs, you'll need 2K resolution to be able to see number plates.

  • Hi OP, what did you end up with. I am in the same situation. Thanks

  • I can vouch for Bosch reliability. Had my alarm system installed 2 years ago and it is rock solid. No false alarms like my old system.
