Cheapest Get around for Telstra Day Customer Requirement

Morning. A few weeks ago I purchased an iPhone 13 pro from their Telstra day deals, outright. I don’t have a Telstra plan, rep just made me an account and sold me the phone.

I’m with my friend today and we are trying to purchase the S21FE for $699, and the rep is refusing unless we purchase a plan. He said we are also unable to use a $2 sim. What do you guys reckon? How can we purchase the phone at $699 outright, or in that ballpark?

Call JB Hi Fi and get them to price match. That's how I got the iPhone during that deal previously

    • I just did their live chat, they refused and said that “it was a one off for that Telstra day”, and refused to price match this one.

I'd call them, it might be a one-off, but it is available.

        • Yeah the phone hotline is much more lenient I found

      • live chat never price matches for me. they are useless. always making excuses but phone is very good

Just take out a 1 month plan with them? It's like $60. These deals aren't designed for people to resell phones who aren't customers anyway…

Why not use the account rep made for you to purchase it?

    • Rep said I had to have an active plan/subscription with Telstra.

I'd be a Telstra customer now if it wasn't for them and their Telstra ID requirements. They'd be getting my money, and I'd be getting 5G speed.

Telstra offered an online only deal that was what I wanted. They said it was available to new customers. But when you tried to purchase it you could only do so if you gave a Telstra ID. So I went to a Telstra store, and they wouldn't sign me up for a Telstra ID unless I purchased something. And they did not offer the deal that was available online only. So I purchased a pre-paid plan, and activated it, intending not to renew it at the end of the first month, so I could get a Telstra ID, then purchased the deal I really wanted. Then Telstra so completely messed up the transition from the pre-paid to the good deal that I gave up on them. As a means of acquiring new customers it was a complete disaster.

The Telstra bureaucracy doesn't realise how much of a pest it makes of itself.
