Also available from Big W eBay Store - Free delivery with eBay Plus (and potentially $5 off with monthly coupon)

    • Yup just got it for $24 can't complain

      • Holy moly, bought! Thanks

  • +1

Wow that dropped price quickly. Is it not as good as the first one?

    • +2

It leaves a lot to be desired and has become very complicated to play. There's just far too much going on yet it's all more of the same and having to constantly manage your in-game time and survival gameplay that it loses some of the enjoyment personally.

Can't just pick it up after a long day to hack and slash some zombies like Dead Island unfortunately. Worth a go though.

    • +3

It's a great game. I think the first one is a bit better IMO, but 2 is great also.

    • +2

2nd game is pretty meh. They butchered the story, and the gameplay isn't anything special either. Worth buying when on sale for $20 or less I reckon.

Also looks and runs like crap on PS5 while having last-gen graphics — the engine is horribly unoptimised.

      • I might wait for PC $20

      • Really? Because i remember watching a Digital Foundry analysis of all next gen platforms and them saying performance was practically flawless in both 30fps graphics mode and 60fps performance mode.
        https://youtu.be/f2CPmj8J3KY?t=589 at the 9:50 mark

        • Yes, performance is mostly "flawless" but it looks crap. I mean see the videos for yourself, it's a blurry mess at 1080p/60fps (Performance and RT mode), and even the ~1800p/30fps (Resolution) mode looks completely last-gen.

It's like the graphics engine has barely progressed past the DL1 engine, on PS5 at least. Definitely the worst-looking PS5 game I have played — it seriously looks like an early PS4 title in that respect.

On PC you can at least compensate by cranking up the graphic detail with pure GPU power.

@deadpoet: Your own words from earlier today were "runs like crap on PS5"

            • +1

@lordezekiel: Was a bad choice of words, in retrospect. Point taken.

              • +1

@deadpoet: I totally agree that a new game running at 60fps on PS5 and Series X should be doing better than 1080p though, there were some PS3 games doing 1080p 60fps 15+ years ago!

      • +1

The game has been patched since launch to improve performance.
Runs great and looks next gen on xbox series x in balanced mode.
But resolution mode and I think RT are stuck at 30fps, which doesn't work well for the amount of running and parkouring around you do.
The game itself is great and graphics are a major update from the first one.
Recommended if you liked number one, or open world games. Much better than the Far Cry games.
Parkouring around makes it a joy to play, and combat is varied and fun.

Price matched at Amazon just FYI

  • honestly don't see the hype around this franchise, other than that it's well support by the developer? the story and characters are lame and the gameplay boils down to essentially being far cry with zombies…?

    • +6

I mean, you could boil down most games to be "far cry with X" now.

Parkour is incredible in the series, which differentiates it from most games on its own. Definitely worth a plunge at this price.

      • Personally I would only compare a game to far cry when it has these two traits: 1) crappy story not worth spending time on 2) repetitive gameplay full of busy work. The latter I gotta agree that it pretty much applies to all open world games, but take Marvel's Spider-Man and Ghost of Tsushima for exampels, those games have plots and characters to invest in and in turns, give you incentives to keep playing in that open world.

        • -3

But then compare GOT to red dead as an open world game and GOT appears like a dead world and lacking in dynamic gameplay events and lacking in graphics. So it’s just the environment that you want, guns, zombies, swords, samurai, marvel super hero world etc etc. Open world games where exploring takes priority are the games I like. Hence why dying light 1, red dead, gta are top tier open world games, and then other like got, Spider-Man, Zelda etc are more accessible and simpler.

    • You can "boil down" virtually any game/movie/song/etc in a similarily reductionist way if you like, but all it will do is prevent you from enjoying them.

  • I was staying at a friend’s recently that loved these games, tried out both 1 and 2, I really don’t get it. They’re just not that good. I’d rather play Last of Us or something idk.

    • they're not as good as last of us but still worth a play IMO. I enjoyed both DLs and TLOUs.

    • +2

Dying Light 1 is fantastic because of its incidental, moment-to-moment gameplay — crazy fights and discoveries that randomly pop up as you're exploring the world. It's much like Days Gone in that respect. Story is very average and nothing to write home about.

Completely different to curated, linear story-driven games like TLOU. I love all these games, but they're very different to each other.

    • The Last of Us is a completely different style of game though? I would rather play Skyrim again but i don't see how that's particularily relevant.

  • +9

Thats why disc verison PS5 .. as digital is broad daylight robbery

  • +5

I need a bargain on the PC version!

  • +3

Huge drop, probably end up on PS PLUS at some stage.

    It's cheap tho!

  • +2

Great game and better yet, superb price. Its a no-brainer.

  • +1

Thanks OP took a punt at that price….

  • was looking to buy buy kinda discouraged by the negative comments, the game could be sub 20 bucks in a month too

    • +3

Dude don't come to ozbargain to help you decide what game to play, there are a lot of crusty olds on here who have long forgotten how to enjoy things.

  • +7

Comparing it to Last Of Us or Far Cry is nonsensical. It's not the most polished game out there, but the parkour and climbing mechanics are a lot of fun & there are well over 100 hours of gameplay here. We have been spoilt with games like Lost Of Us and God Of War, that we try and compare all other games (quality, graphics, voice acting) to them, to our detriment. For $29, this game is worth a look. Don't expect to be wowed, just try and have some fun.

  • -2

Meh, probably will be available on Gamepass or PS plus in the near future. 😁
    Thanks for sharing though.

  • I see a number of people have bought 10 copies over on Big W's eBay store. What's their play? Trade in at EB using their level 4/5 benefits? I wouldn't have thought they'd be getting much more than $29 for each copy. Perhaps trying to re-sell? Again, minimal margin if any. Help a simpleton like me understand.

    • probably post for resell on fb market and trade in at eb games like you said, they do have some sweet trade in bonuses for time to time but it's only good for you to put it towards pre-order or when you actually grabbed the game for a bargain. I wouldn't say this game at this price is a huge bargain given the steep drop in price but a bargain nonetheless.

  • decided to give this a go cos I had amazon prime discount. Holy crap the graphic is absolutely dog shit instant regret will probably just trade this in at eb games.
