For an extra $17 (without digging for ebay codes - local stock, better warranty (5 years vs 3, higher TBW)

  • Can someone tell me the longevity of these SSD vs HDD ? My wd about to die & it's only 2yrs old … such a piece of trash …

    • -1

The SSD will probably outlive us.

      • Not in my experience. Have had three die on me across multiple systems in the last 5 years (oddly I haven't had a HDD die in that time)

You need to have a backup with either.

    • I've had two ssd fail. One less than a year

Brand? Never had one fail on my main PC, all samsung evos

        • Not saying Samsung isn't generally a good brand, but one or two PCs isn't really a large enough sample size to draw conclusions from.

(For what it's worth, I used to be in charge of ~150 signage PCs at different client sites: 100 intel SSDs and 50 Samsung SSDs. Both of those groups had only 1 failure over >5 years in the field so that's petty good for both of them in my opinion. Caveat: this was a while ago now, when Intel consumer SSDs were in-house Intel controllers rather than 3rd party)

The only sure way not to lose data is to not create any. Always make backups. How long a piece of technology lasts depends on how you use it and the environment in which it's being used. In normal everyday use in a system that's ventilated at a reasonable temperature it can last a very long time.

  • IMO not a good price since it's QLC and no cache.
    edit:

    mx500 1TB $119: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B078211KBB

    bx500 1TB $95: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07YD579WM

    • Are those bette ?

QVO has a dram cache but is QLC. Still much better than BX500 from experience but not as good as the MX500.
100% agree MX500 is far better option at $119

Oops, didn't realize it had the 1gb dram cache.

Totally agree though, MX500 all the way

  • Thank you for the infor, coz my storage HDD 'seem' like dying according to Hard Disk Sentinel https://prnt.sc/XYIQqMAAnpcB. So Im in a panic mode lol. There are a fair bit of important data in it

You should be getting that data off the drive ASAP
