ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 (2022), 15.6" 165Hz QHD, Ryzen 7 6800HS, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, RTX 3060 $2297 C&C/ Delivered @ Officeworks

670

Was looking for a new laptop capable of gaming while being portable and found this online. The black model with additional 512GB SSD is $2899 from other stores. The price difference is $600 and I really doubt black paint costs that much so this is probably a decent deal for a new laptop that has good reviews from what I've seen.

  • 15.6" IPS display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440.
    AMD Ryzen 7 processor.
    16 GB RAM.
    512 GB PCIe SSD drive.
    Intel Iris Xe graphics processor.

    Yo what?

    • The detailed specs and the asus website states 3060

      • +1

I know, but this is on the officeworks' website

        • +3

yeah the specification on the officeworks site also says 3060, the descriptions are usually wrong since they give australia the worser models unless I got bamboozled.

          • +1

@simontadaa: It’s definitely not Iris Xe Graphics as that is integrated graphics on Intel CPU

            • @FireRunner: Maybe Intel and AMD are working together to try and compete against Apple 😬

              • +2

@[Deactivated]: Btw this happened in 2018 with the i7-8809G.
But not to specifically compete with Apple since M1 didn't exist yet.

          • @simontadaa: Nothing do with worser models. You simply can't have Intel graphics on an AMD chipset lol

            • +1

@Zackeroo: i7-8809G had AMD graphics on an Intel chip…

  • +8

    Might be a decent laptop.

But at this price I'd rather have a gaming desktop AND a lightweight 2nd hand ultrabook.

    • +1

I own this laptop (2020 model) and I absolutely love it. It's thin and light enough, and even with the old specs it can run most modern AAA games on mid and sometimes high settings.

    • Where do you get your second-hand ultrabooks? Are we talking "like new" at cut prices? XPS or Surface or MacBook?

      • +1

        Something similar to this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/707455

Just saying that with the same amount of money one could build a more powerful gaming pc and get a 2nd hand laptop.

        • -1

No. Both pc and laptop will be comprimidas in performance. $1500 for a gaming laptop with what graphic card please?

          You are living in dreamland.

    • +1

I assume people buy these because they don't have space aka people renting rooms or living in apartments.

I'd be the same, buy a gaming desktop 1.5k and spend 1k on a fast laptop.

    • Useful if you're on the move a lot. You can't exactly lug around a desktop if your work involves travel.

  • Legion 5 is probably better, was on sale the other day.

    • +1

Yeah the Legion 5 with 3070 seems like a better deal to me

    • +5

But it's more chonkier and battery is pathetic. I think this has one of the best batteries of all windows laptops if you aren't gaming.

      • Second that, legion 5’S battery and size really doesn’t attract me at all.

    • +6

The Zephyrus is thinner and lighter than the Legion but I think slightly less powerful with lower TDP equivalent GPU

    • That was a legion 5 PRO

    • +2

Legion all the way. And it had cashrewards too

    • +11

If you want better gaming experience, then yes.

But this have some of the best battery life you will see in a gaming laptop, second only to probably the smaller G14/Flow X13; There’s the better colour coverage -100% dci p3 makes it a better good photo/video editing content creation machine than the legion; It also have, along with other zephyrus laptops, by far the best speakers you can get in gaming laptops; Add in the portability and build quality, the price is more than justified.

  • +1

I have the G14 - portability is great but I had a number of issues with MS Teams - regular crashes when trying to screen share especially. Spent a long time fixing it until I just disabled the GFX. It may of had an update in tbe mean time but be wary it might not be a great work horse + gaming.

  • +3

    It's expensive.

    • +19

Out of your budget by $1,397

  • Network port on side is so annoying

    • use a dock? or is that a no-no for gaming?

      shrug

  • +1

Thanks OP. Bought one. I was waiting for the M16 with similar specs (intel i7 instead of AMD Ryzen) but M16 does not have white one and I'm into white stuff so go ahead with this one. Would be nicer if they have the new AMD GPU instead of Nvidia 3060.

3060 for $2300? can have 3070 at this price

    • +5

….and theres desktop 3080 prebuilt deals for 1.7k which easily overpowers the most expensive 3080ti laptops in games. Your point being?

Of course theres better performing machines for less, zephyrus is not known for being a budget range in the first place. And theres far more than fps gains in a laptop, if we are going a strict fps to $ ratio, those HN 1.1k nitro 5 3060 deals would be the the best and every other 3060 laptop ares worthless.

      • -5

I don't know why zephyrus is priced so high, I held and gutted a few, nothing special.

I wouldn't think L5p is worse than this, and can be had with 3070 at this price when on special. it's a gaming laptop right

I posted Aorus 17g and at the same price it had 3070, mechanical keyboard and alloy build. zephyrus build isn't stellar, keyboard isn't great, and only has 3060. that's the point I guess.

        • +3

you are free to voice your opinion but these can be quite subjective

I wouldn't think L5p is worse than this,

I never said the L5P is worse than this deal neither, its totally up to each person to see what they hoped to get out of a gaming laptop and choose accordingly, in that regard, I dont think its fair to compare two laptops wholly different in weight and specs.

I posted Aorus 17g and at the same price it had 3070, mechanical keyboard and alloy build.

i have seen nothing positive in reviews on the majority of aorus ranges from 2021, and mech keys on laptops really arent great, not to mention this specific machine you mentioned is 17' and not really comparable to 15 inch ones, the main thing about gaming laptops is portability and 17' is way past the point of portable for most people. Theres far better desktop replacements than the aorus 17g, which is without a mux switch nor comes with full powered gpus-105w 3070 on a 17' is very sad.

          • -4

@Brrrrt: horses to courses I guess?

the main thing about gaming laptops is portability

if that be true, 17 inch gaming machines wouldn't exist to begin with

the main thing about gaming laptops is gaming graphic cards, I thought. and paying this much for a plastic laptop with a 3060 doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

Aorus has been super solid, I swear by it. first laptop after a few I tried and returned or sold on since about this time last year, including Acer Nitro, HP Omen, Razer 17 Pro, Kraken (Intel X15), Metabox, the list goes on

nothing wrong with Aorus, and attacking it achieves what exactly? is that supposed to discount my experience somehow? what is this, amateur hour? :) 105w 3070 means happy and quiet cooling whatever I do, and it's got a 300hz panel, too. well anyway.

I'll see myself out, have no time for this. buy 2 of these if you think they are great.

  • +2

I have the 2021 version with rtx 3070 and it's a beast. Much better than I expected and for that price, a bargain.

  • +3

Very nice but.. $2.3k+ for 3060???
Everyone wants one but I'm not sure it's a bargain compared to a Legion 5 or legion 5 Pro

    • +3

From what I've researched the main advantage the G15 has over the Legion 5 would be that it's much more portable. It's smaller, lighter and has some of the best battery life in its class while still having respectable performance. If I had to choose one to lug around all day I'd pick the G15 over the Legion.

    • -1

people hate me for saying that, and I still haven't heard a single argument why this is a good deal. I must be missing something

      • 209g lighter than L5P. And HS CPU. For $500 more. But if you must have ultra portability then I can see why its worth it. I have a 3rd Gen Intel desktop that I'm waiting to replace with a Ryzen 7000 laptop with good enough iGPU.
For the price you'd expect at least a 1TB SSD

        • yeah makes some sense I guess. I don't think we're quite there yet technology wise to be able to put gaming and ultra portable in the same sentence.

"weighs only 1.9kg" that's not exactly light, or ultra portable. trying to kill 2 birds with one stone, well I can see the business case for that. buy one laptop that can deliver gaming with a power brick, and also be your workplace on the go. still I expect 3070 at this price

getting 3060 will affect resale value once 4000 series GPUs are out. a true Ozbargainer should have an exit strategy. 1-2 years downstream there sure will be lighter and more portable gaming laptops. if that's all your current machine has on offer, how much will you get for it?

          • @shabaka: Agree, I have an ultrabook for work for this reason/absolute lightweight at a kilo and great battery life.

            • +1

@giordan0: same. gaming laptop needs a big fast screen, it doesn't quite fit into "light" or "portable" - even though I travelled with my Aorus, it's 800g heavier than this machine. is 800g a lot? I don't really think so if I know that I bring no compromises gaming station with me.

for work I have a dedicated X1 carbon. weighs nothing, and has stellar battery life, screen, and keyboard.

  • I have to 2021 Zephyrus G15. It has a great screen and is very portable.
Buy it if you have to lug a laptop around all day.

  • If you have access to China Lenovo Official Website, this is probably better.

R900X(Legion Slim in Australia) , 16.9mm thin, 500 Nit screen. AMD 6800H, Radeon 6800S(Roughly 3060Ti at 90w). At current exchange it is $1900+$110 redelivered to Australia by your friend in China.

Anyone thinking of getting this please note.. G15 has a more focus on looks and portability rather then performance (i.e. gaming and vid editing). For a 3060, there are better deals available. For 2.3k you want a super powerful 3060 Or med 3070. This G15 3060 is on the mid-low end TGP.

    • I'm not up-to-date with latest specs, so wondering if an Alienware m15 r5 (Ryzen 7 5800H / GTX 3070 / 16GB RAM / 512GB storage) for $2.243 is a better deal? Provided that I don't care about the lower display resolution (1080) cause I'd be playing on a monitor. Really gutted I missed out on the Legion 5 Pro deal last week so trying to find a worthy deal.

    • which ones would you suggest?

      • This deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/715559

Or even a Lenovo legion or MSI vector Gp66 will sell for 2.2k which has a wayyy more 3060 TGP power than this G15.

The one thing G15 does have the upper hand on is it's aesthetics. It's a good looking sleek mechine.

Too many nerds in this forum.

  • OOS everywhere it seems. For those who missed out, the black model is on sale at JB for 100 more (similar specs)

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/asus-rog-zephyrus-g15-15-…

  • Would the current m15 Kraken deal be similar in performance to this? Not as good battery wise I'm sure but in terms of processing power and graphics performance, also weight? Kraken is about 1.9kg without the charger apparently.
