Have I Been Employed for Coles Yet?

Hi all,

I've been on the hunt for a job to earn some extra cash when I'm not at uni. I've recently applied for a nightfill position at my local Coles.

After attending my interview, I was sent an email to complete a working rights check. This requires the submission of a Birth Cert./Passport/Citizenship Cert. and Drivers Licence and/or Medicare.

I ended up submitting my Birth Certificate, Driver's Licence and Medicare, however when I went to submit it said that the WRC had failed. Though it said that someone from recruitment will contact me shortly.

It's been about 3 days since I submitted it, and I'm unsure as to whether this means I have been rejected or my application has succeeded and requires further assistance.

I was wondering if anyone in the OzB community has also encountered this issue? And maybe for any Coles managers, is this mistake common?

Thanks

PS: My SA birth certificate was 8(?) digits as opposed to 123456/1999 (6 digits + year) which was indicated as an example

Do you have anyone within their recruitment team to contact and find out?

    • I've got the personal number of the manager since he messaged me about work availability, however I thought that it would be rude to contact him personally. Unless that's okay to do, I'm not really informed on the mannerisms….

If the number was provided through the normal recruitment process then it's not rude at all. They can choose to pick up or not during work hours.

If you really wish, you can text them a concise message and await a reply in the first instance: "Hello, this is Pho, I applied for nightfill position at Coles Prospect last Wed and told someone would contact me but haven't heard back. Can you please advise what to do next? Thank you."

Message: "Hi X, I went through the online application and it said there was an issue with the WRC and someone from recruitment would contact me - this was about 4 days back and still haven't heard anything. Is there a number or someone I can contact to sort this out?"

    Three days isn't much…
    I'd give them 5-7…

Have I Been Employed for Coles Yet?

Normally you're considered employed after they make you a formal offer for the job and you sign/accept all the conditions.
The formal offer usually comes after you've done your interviews and completed all the relevant checks (in this case, the WRC). Sometimes they make a verbal offer before the relevant checks have come back successfully - did they do that?

Three says since you submitted, so Friday? And today is Monday. It’s only been a few business hours, they’ll come back to you.

If you do have a contact number though, definitely try give them a call.

UPDATE: thanks everyone for the advice. Coles sent another email for me to provide some more info for the WRC. Will see what happens from there
